Today, I came home after ten hours at work to find my unemployed wife and 4 kids sprawled out watching TV waiting for me to get home and cook for them. I had to wash all the dishes first because they didn't feel like getting up or helping. FML

Today, I spent hours cooking an amazing dinner for my family, who had just gotten home from a trip, so we could spend some time together because I'd started to miss everyone. When they got home, they saw it all laid out and just took plates to their room, without even telling me they were home. FML

Today, due to an emergency, I ended up working for 18 hours instead of 13. I'd texted my unemployed wife to let her know this was unavoidable, but when I got home she blamed me like she thought I planned this in advance, yelled at me, and my dinner was Heinz tomato soup I had to heat up myself. Today, I worked a full day and then went to a three-hour class. I got home at 9 PM, and before the door closed I heard, "There's a sink full of dishes for you." There are three able-bodied men in the house, all of whom got here hours ago and created that sink full of dishes. FML

Your wife don't belong in the kitchen. Take that money you earned from your ten hour day and buy yourself something to eat. If they want to eat they'll cook eventually. Yes the idea of having dinner ready for you when you get home sounds wonderful- just like it would be nice to still have slaves.

Hun, it has nothing to do with control. If the husband was unemployed he should be helping his partner out, same for the wife. It's not fair that he has to work to support his entire family while his wife coasts. Nothing to do with gender, you're supposed to be equal in marriage and help out where needed.

OP's saying his wife expected him to clean and cook for the whole family. Yes he shouldn't expect her to cook for him but she's unemployed and at home all day. If she can't take five minutes to get up and make herself and her kids some food instead of making her husband support them in yet another way after a ten hour shift then she definitely needs to get off her butt before karma slams into her full force.

All sexism aside, if you are working then your partner needs to be doing their share as well. And if your CHILDREN are ignoring you, you have bigger problems than needing to make dinner when you get home. You need to have a long talk with your wife and you need to start acting like a PARENT to your children. My mom was as liberal as the next mom and I more or less did what I wanted, but when she told me to GET UP and HELP HER, I did.
