Today, I came home from vacation to discover that one of my friends had broken into my house, painted my room a hideous color, ruined my hardwood floors with the paint, and left huge mess for me to clean. When I confronted her about it, she called me ungrateful. Everyone I know agrees with her. FML

Hey, this is the OP...just made an account to clarify this. She painted my room black, then tried to paint turquoise stripes over it. The hardwood floor might be fixable, yeah, but getting the black paint out of my white carpet...? Not so much. Not to mention she broke my patio door to get in...and she tried to poor the extra paint down the drain in my bathroom sink, so that's all clogged up. Needless to say, she's not my friend anymore...if I can get her to pay for the damages and a painter to fix my room, I won't press charges.

Hideous cover, or color? If it's on the inside, it's no big deal. However, for revenge, do something to the outside of her house for the whole world to see!

I'd say go ahead and file a report while you can. I suspect you're going to have a tough time getting any money out of her. A police report will help you in the civil suit. And yeah, get friends who aren't morons.

Press charges, sue for damages, or decide her car "needs" a new paint job with a few gallons of latex paint. Don't get caught.

Ever heard of a house alarm? Would've came in handy here.

Like other people said, you can save the floors. Ask a professional before doing anything.

thank goodness you're taking charge! that friggin sucks though she should have offered to clean up or even had it done before you got there and how dumb are your other friends who agreed that you're ungrateful? hope you get better friends! it wouldn't hurt to get a psychological exam for those potential friends.... ;)

dude. what kind of nut-case is this girl? and who agrees with that?

This was just totally wrong. Get a police report. There is a whole lot you can do. And there are some options if you don't want to hire an attorney. Your county courthouse (or some courthouse in your county, if not the one nearest you) probably has a self-help center where you can find info on getting your own court case going. I think an attorney would save you a lot of time and trouble, though. There is always the Legal Aid Society who will charge you only what you can afford.

she clearly isn't a friend if she did that to you. some people are just bitches.
