Today, I came home to find out my stay-at-home neighbor built his kids an awesome treehouse deck two stories up in the air. Three feet from my house. Directly adjacent to my second-floor bedroom. FML

OP here. Last night's 10 year old gossip included who's farts smell the best and what night the "neighborhood meeting" should take place in the treehouse. It isn't the visual privacy that's the issue, it's the sound. I can hear them whispering, but so far it's been pretty entertaining and they're called inside by 9pm. But they're guaranteed to get a soundbite when my boyfriend visits this weekend.... ;) Wish I could share a photo.

At least now they don't have to worry about going to school to get a sex-ed lesson

Guess he was tired of sitting on the tree branch. wanted something sturdier!!

show them stuff that will scar them for life and teach the dad a thing or two about privacy

I somehow doubt he got approved building plans for an ADU. Also, there are things called lot lines and property lines which the city will gladly give you information on where yours and his are that neither of you can cross.

There is no way something like that meets code. You can't just build whatever you want wherever you want. There are zoning laws and building codes for just this reason.

Or it could be a loose code. My city's code would allow it, as long as the proper permits are pulled and it passes inspection. You can build within three inches of your property line here, and there is no limit to the closeness of other buildings or a height limit. My eave hangs three inches over my neighbor's land, and my other neighbor's eave hangs over mine. I could build within six inches of their house withing the law and be fine and legal. Depends on the area you live in.

That's probably illegal. Check with your zoneing commission.

Idk about Oregon but there are laws that people have to follow when it comes to the yard, maybe look it up and see?

Build your kids a massive observatory in your garden, complete with 3ft reflecting telescope pointed at their bedroom window!

How long were you gone for because it's not like they built it in a day. Could you not say something sooner?
