Today, I came home to find that my mother had sold all my valuable collector coins for cheap at a local shady pawn shop to buy herself a TV. The coins in question were worth enough to start a business. FML

Well...that sucks... :/ Try putting her in a home. Or a pie. A meat pie. Why, yes, I /AM/ clinically insane. Why?

Report the coins stolen and talk to the pawn shop. I'd be so posed

You have a legal claim against your mother for taking your property, which is probably useless because it'd destroy any positive relationship you have (or, more relevantly, you could go down to the pawnshop and insist that the coins are stolen property, but now that I think about it this would have more serious consequences for her). Also (if I'm not mistaken), you can buy things back from a pawn shop for what you got for them for a certain window of time. At the very least you should try to negotiate with your mother and/or the pawnshop owner and see if you can salvage the situation at all.

I thought with a pawn shop you have set number of days to pay the money back and get your items back

You can actually legally force the pawn shop owner to give them back because your mother never had legal title. might have to hire a lawyer for a small fee and your mom will have to give the tv back, but it should be pretty easy.

Call the cops immediately and file a report. Then see a lawyer with regards to getting them back. Your mother could be on trouble so it's up to you.

You should just sue her for the money the coins were appraised for, it's an easy win for you unless you're leaving something big out.
