Today, I cut down a dead tree in my yard. The top hit the ground and the base seesawed up in the air and came down on my head. I hit the ground like a sack of flour. Fortunately, the wood was rotted and soft. Unfortunately, the chainsaw was still running. 28 stitches in my calf. FML

+1 to 87 and 118. I just finished the USFS chainsaw certification course. Never run a saw without chaps, and never try to fell a tree without a proper hardhat, though chaps wouldn't have helped much in this case since they don't cover the backs of your legs. How did you try to bring it down, anyways?

i totally cringed as i read this

mmm that does suck. my uncle had a similar experience. the tree hit him in the chest and knocked him over. then the chainsaw fell onto his spine.

FYL cause that sucks but also YDI because you tried to cut down the tree with seemingly little knowledge about how to unless your like a professional logger in which case that really sucks but i think its unlikely that you are a professional logger otherwise you'd have been able to prevent that

Haha. lol. OWNED! Imagine finding someone next to a fallen tree, unconscious, and bleeding from the leg with a running chainsaw next to them.

YDI for not using proper chainsaw equipment like Kevlar chaps

Sorry, I call bullshit on this one. I really don't believe that not only did you not get out of the way as the tree starts to fall on you, but then the chainsaw is somehow still on and cuts into your leg only enough to make you need 28 stitches but not enough to completely **** you up. Even if this did happen, YDI because you clearly haven't been properly trained and weren't taking precautions.

wwooowww. MOVE OUT OF THE WAY YDI. and WEAR CHAINSAW CHAPS. trust me they work. by still. that realllyyy suckss. I hope u feel better sooon!!! :(

to everyone saying "you're lucky you didn't cut your leg off" -- it is almost IMPOSSIBLE to cut a limb off with a chainsaw. it dulls before you can get through any significant amount of skin, and definitely before it could cut to through bone.
