Today, I decided to be the "cool aunt" and take my nephew to a horror movie. I ended up being so scared, I burst into tears. Nothing says "cool" like having an 11-year-old walk a sobbing, grown woman from a theatre. FML

You took ELEVEN YEARS OLD? Isn´t there written that it is for people older than 18 or something like that? ...

Maybe you shouldn't be so scared of horror movies

I have a tendency to cry during horror movies, too, but not because I'm scared. I've had a lot of people close to me die (including both parents,) and seeing people "die" brings up a lot of grief. Anything with ghosts or Angels or death is a real tear jerker for me.

At least you have something to laugh about together in the years to come. It could have ended him traumatized and his parents angry at you.

Hey if he were a Boy Scout he just got a badge GOOD JOB OP

I don't see the problem with taking a child to see a horror movie. My mother took me to see horror movies ALL the time when I was younger! She sat me down and told me, "Now you know these aren't real, right?", and everything was peachy! In fact, I've introduced her to newer horror movies, and she LOVES them! The gorier the better!

My mom was the same way, but I was more like the OP as a child, I hated horror movies as a kid, my mom still doesn't know where she went wrong on that one.

You shouldn't take a little kid to a horror movie anyways. YDI.

Well it didn't seem to have an effect on him. I'm sure he won't be scarred for life.
