Today, I decorated my boyfriend's house for Christmas as a surprise, just in time for him and his family to come home. Also just in time for him to tell me he's Jewish. FML

If she didn't already know her boyfriend was jewish, I feel it was too early in the relationship to do anything to his house as a surprise.

I find it creepy that you broke into his house.

OP, it's only three days before Christmas. Didn't it occur to you that there's probably a reason he hadn't decorated yet? Also, seconding 4. Breaking into his house and rearranging it is beyond creepy.

Ok she obviously didn't "break" into his house. Either he has given her a key or she decorated the outside. It's a bit weird that she didn't know he was Jewish but that could be because he doesn't practice the religious side of it. Either way I think it's nice that Op tried to do something fun and sweet for her boyfriend. It didn't work in this case, but it is the thought that counts. Op maybe you two need to spend some more time together and talk about likes/dislikes/religion/beliefs/values and all those good things.

Obviously this post isn't from today. Not all posts are made on the day we see them

Redecorating someone's shit without their permission is not "sweet" or "cute," 58, it's an invasion of privacy. Also, really, she had a key but didn't know why he didn't already have decorations up? What kind of ******-up relationship do OP and her boyfriend have?!?

We don't have our decorations up yet because we don't know where they are and we're not buying new ones :p

we don't have our decorations up yet cos we're just to lazy haha

next time.....keep going and say it's for the Jewish one! I can't spell it

Chanukah, perhaps? That holiday that in no way resembles Christmas aside from the time of year?

77- There are multiple spellings. Chanukah, Hanukka, Hanukkah, etc.

In no way resembles Christmas? Not even the giving of small gifts for 8 nights?

please, in my house we're lucky if we get one present for the whole of Chanuka

When we went to Miami for the holidays when I was a kid, we got presents every day. Hanukkah gelt. Chocolate coins. Pocket money. Other small items. Sometimes even significant money. I don't practice nor do I pretend to know everything about it. But that seems to be pretty traditional according to the Jews that I know.

everybody likes Christmas decorations! don't be so hard on yourself. .

Ok, not everybody likes Christmas decorations, but there are a lot of people from different religions, Jewish or Muslim for example, that do kind of celebrate Christmas and decorate their houses. Just because someone is a different religion it doesn't necessarily mean they don't join in on the Christmas festivities or decorate their house with Christmas decorations (as we've seen from several Jewish commenters above that decorate a tree and celebrate the season).

Clearly OP's boyfriend is not one of those people, 60.

This is why you shouldn't do things to other peoples property without their permission. That's creepy and shows that you need to learn to have some boundaries.

That makes no sense. This is how surprise parties are done.

I find it weird that you are comfortable enough to go into his house to decorate, but apparently don't know his religious affiliation. Even if he isn't very religious, the fact that the Christmas decorations are a problem for him means that his religion is at least a little important to him.

How would u not no that? u guys really need to talk more in ur relationship before u commit

Lol #73 why bother that whole post was a train wreck of spelling mistakes
