Today, I dyed my hair. And my forehead. And my ears. And my arms. And my hands. FML

MissDQ tells us more.

I've been dying my hair since I was 14, so know what I'm doing. I just now live in a tiny house with a tiny bathroom and my hair is just shy of my butt. I usually use a mirror to make sure I'm ok, but because of the length of my hair I have to do it upside down over the bathtub. It got on my arms while doing the main body of my hair, ears and forehead are a no brainier and I had a couple of spots drip down the gloves while I was doing the ends. I managed to get it off my face thankfully because I had to go out in public. The box said to use a wet towel with shampoo on it when you rinse it out, which I did and it didn't seem to be working so I attacked my face with exfoliating gloves and it did the job. I've now got to work out how to scrub the purple off the vanity and in the bathtub. I do wipe it straight away but it stains right away too. It's a super dark mahogany since I have to use 2 bottles. Looks blackish in the shade and red in the sun. Came out far better than I expected and I've never gone dark before so it's a nice change. Adds to the 'new me' thing I've got going.

Why is your hair shy of your butt? They both belong to the same girl, so the social awkwardness is unnecessary.

You're supposed to put the dye in your hair, not use it as bubble bath. I would ask if you were blonde, but that's a stupid stereotype. And I think it's a moot point now anyway.

And that's why you either read the instructions, or go to a salon.

YDI. I'm a guy and I can dye my own hair, make less of a mess in the room than my wife with her own hair and not have stray dye on my skin. It's too bad you had trouble, but I'm not feeling the sympathy.

because you're a guy you think that makes it harder for you?? I'm assuming your hair is relatively short which is significantly easier to do. If you have longer hair, it gets in your face, on your ears and the like. When rinsing in the shower it CAN stain your skin. True, OP may have benefited from having Conditioner or Vaseline around the hairline and ears, but some things are almost unavoidable, especially with home hair jobs. OP, I used to be a hairdresser, and one of the things that we would do if we didn't have any stain remover was use windex. It's not harsh on the skin, and it fades the colour quite a bit. Some of the stain will still be there, but it will be less noticeable. Good luck removing the stains on your skin! (I assume you were wearing gloves and such but the arm and hand stains got on while washing out??)

common sense, girls have way more hair, so for us, naturally, its a messier job. especially if your hairs long and thick, when you have to scrub and massage, some dye is bound to splatter and drip somewhere. especially the arms.

What do you think the gloves were for?

Aww it's okay ive had that happen before! Darker colors tend to run more than lighter colors... Maybe use less next time or try a different color !

Don't worry OP the dye doesn't stay in the skin for long. Wash it daily & hopefully in a couple of days it'll go. You should be more careful next time though. You can harm your eyes or inhale/swallow some. Enjoy being unique for the time being. ;)

When you dye, make sure that you won't dye alone...

Ajax works wonders with hot water!

I do that every time I dye my hair 8D Except the hands, thanks to the gloves. But my legs too. And my butt. And my back.
