Today, I dyed my hair purple. I came out of the salon and a little girl walked past and said, "Wow, you look like a mermaid!", to which her mother quickly said, "No she doesn't, she looks like her parents don't love her." FML

Today, while changing my clothes, my 3 year-old daughter informed me that I looked like a zebra. Noticing my shocked face, she tried comforting me by telling me I was a pretty zebra because I was a purple zebra. She was talking about my stretch marks. FML

Today, I got my long hair cut in a short pixie cut. When my five year old daughter saw me she laughed and proclaimed 'You look just like a man!'. That afternoon I got a concerned call from the school. My daughter has told everyone 'mummy has gone away, I now have two daddies!' FML

Today, at the Mommy and Me dance class that I take my four year old daughter to, the instructor had us do a stretch, telling us to pretend we're mermaids. My daughter said to me, "But you're not a mermaid, you're a whale!" FML

Today, I’ve been dying my hair an auburn color for years. It looks so natural and get complimented often. Before I can even say thank you, my daughter or partner blurts out, “It's not real” or “It’s fake”. Everyone laughs and it’s a little less awkward, I guess… FML

That's ridiculous. If anything, that little girl's mother doesn't love HER enough to let her express herself. She's teaching her daughter to judge others based on what they look like. Parenting fail.

I get some similar reactions from people for my hair. Don't let it get to you OP, I'm sure you look stunning. listen to the child not the mother.

Look, if the kid liked it, that's a good thing! It shows that the kid knows how to express their minds and feelings! That they are able to express themselves whenever, however, whereever! Now that kid's mother being cruel like that? It just shows that she was never given the proper love and care she should have gotten, and just teaching her kid the same thing she was "taught" - To not express themselves and be completely rude to others.

I agree. I have bright blue hair currently (I get bored and change it about every 3-4 weeks) and work at a nursing home. All the little old ladies love my hair and like to tell me what color I should dye it next.
