Today, I filed my taxes. As a divorcée with children, I was supposed to get $3,500 back from the IRS. Alas, my ex's new wife already filed with my children, who don't live with her. I now owe the IRS $250. FML

Everyone keeps attacking the new wife. The ex-husband had to agree with the filing. He knew it would hurt his ex and was probably happy when he did it. He probably figures it will cover some of his child support.

You stupid schmuck... look up the dependent info. As long as the children live with you over half the year, and you provide 50% of the support you get to claim the children. And the penalties imposed on your ex will be much worse. have your documentation.

my sister did this to my mom (my mom has her child) my mom reported her to the IRS and my sister had to pay the IRS back and my mom got the money.

My X did that to me, its a federal offense. Who ever has them 51% of the time is entitled to the refund or sole. But if you go in and file it will show ssn already used and it will start the process automatically. Get them assholes
