Today, I finally decided to get a dog. I have always been wanting to get one ever since I was a child. I bought a $1,400 Golden Retriever. I went out for lunch a few hours later with a friend, so I left my dog in the backyard. I came back home to a broken fence and no dog. FML

Today, I went to a pet store to adopt a dog. I got a medium sized lab, a dog crate, and a few toys, then put his crate in the back of my truck and the dog in his crate. On the way home I realized I forgot dog bowls and some dog food. I went back, and when I got back out to my truck, my dog was gone. My stereo too. FML

Today, I found my dog, who had been missing for over a month, at the local pound. Clearly it was my dog, she responded to her name and cried when she saw me. However, the woman there told me I could not simply take her, I had to follow through with all policies. I paid $250 to adopt my own dog. FML

Today, I went to the local pet store to purchase a large dog bed so my dog wouldn't sleep in mine. After I got home and set up her bed, I realized I forgot to buy dog treats. When I came home again, her new bed was torn to shreds, and she was still sleeping on my bed. FML

I agree with the post above. You gave $1,400 to fund puppy mills when there are thousands of amazing homeless dogs who are being killed very day because nobody will go adopt. You deserved to lose your money and your dog.

you don't buy a dog, you adopt a dog! just because you have to pay money for them does not mean you buy them. they aren't toys or objects. and not all pure breds come from puppy mills. there are many responsible and ethical dog breeders! it doesn't matter whether someone adopts from a breeder or a humane society. at least the dog is hopefully being brought to a loving home!

Wow... 1) $1400 is a crazy amount for a pet dog as common as a Golden Retriever. He better have been ready to show at that price. 2) $1400 is a stupid amount for any dog, actually. 3) Would you leave a $1400 stereo on your front porch? A dog is no different, except it's got legs to walk itself off. 4) Start out with something simple...like a plant. 5) Next time you get a dog, get a pound puppy. Stop supporting breeders who are bringing expensive dogs into the world while 3 out of 4 dogs at the pound will be killed.

Nice, you bought a dog from an unreputable pet shop that got their dogs from puppymills for a ridiculous price, threw it in the backyard the day you got it with no leash, and forgot about it. YDI.
