First this sounds completely made up to me. If it took you 3 weeks to pain the interior and exterior of someone's home after working 10 hour days you should look into a different way of paying your bills. Also, if you began a job of this nature without a contract that is irresponsible on your part, and further proves that you should find another profession. Lastly, if you are so spineless as to allow yourself to be treated like that then you deserve whatever you get. I made the mistake one time as a teenager of not getting anything in writing for a babysitting job, got screwed and will never do any kind of work without anything in writing. I'm going to assume you're just really young and didn't know any better, or just someone with no backbone who lets people walk all over them.

First of all, it's called a contract. Look into it you plan on doing things like this in the future. Secondly, it shouldn't have taken you three weeks to paint one house, I don't care how much of a perfectionist you are. If you didn't get it in writing, and you have nothing to stipulate a time estimate you have absolutely no grounds to sue and deserve to have to pay the ridiculous court fees if you try, just for wasting everyone's time.
