Today, I finished my internship working in a government lab. I got paid $4000 for the summer. I was talking to my cousin, who said that when he worked as a carnie last summer he made $8000. I get paid half as much for doing research as a carnie does for serving people sno-cones. FML

So what? A carnie is never going to go anywhere, you've got experience that will get you a better job and you'll end up with more in the end than a carnie ever could.

be thankful that you even got paid for an internship!

$4000 for a summer internship? That's awesome. I haven't made $4000 in the past 6 months... and there are people in the world who make less than $100 in an entire year, and work 100 times harder than you or I.

Like 106 says - welcome to science. The pay is shit and the work is mostly unappreciated, occasionally vilified. I'm living off about $10 a day and trying to finish a doctorate. But - we do get to do some really cool stuff :-)

it's not just the money dude. you're setting yourself up for a better job down the road. PLUS. I bet his cash had a lot of overtime

You got paid for an internship? I have to work for free and then I leave and go work at Wendy's to pay my student loan... You still one up me. This is not a FML.

I spent many years working with carnivals. Even 20 years ago, I netted at least $1,000 a week, even before I bought my own equipment. I ate very little carny food. I don't know how it looks on a resume, because I moved on to buying a house in the suburbs, and starting up my own construction contracting business, while paying my construction help less than I used to pay my carnival help. How much do you think ice chips and coloring costs? Help usually costs about 20% of the gross. Only temporary green help like him would make that little.

Oh, and working at Cedar Point doesn't count. It's not a carnival. There is no travelling, there is no setting up or tearing down, there is no "working" the patrons, there is no mud, and they don't pay nearly as well. They just push buttons.

Be happy you got paid AT ALL. I work an internship which I do not get paid for and actually loose money on because of the commute, and will probably only make $1500 all summer at my other job. So stop whining and get a job as a carnie if you want $8000.

Mmkay let's work this one out shall we? Say your cousin works a 40 hour week, for a 12 week summer. That's a 480 summer. 8000/480 = 16.67 dollars an hour. Calculate that out, that's nearly 40,000 dollars a year. I call ******* bullshit. No CARNIE makes that much money. He's LYING to you. They are minimum wage, no talent, piece of shit chumps. Don't be so gullible.
