Did she know it was hand-made? Because hand-made things tend to look shitty. The only reason people keep it is because they know it's hand-made which makes it "special."

Parents have an obligation to love what their children give to them, and treasure those things. Who else in the world is going to make them feel appreciated and loved if not their parents first? Maybe next year you could give her a coupon for a parenting class.
