Today, I found my cat who's been missing for three days, sitting inside my neighbor's window. He won't answer the door. FML

OP here. My cat is an indoor cat, we rescued her when she was 2 months old and she never left the house in the last 3 years. My dog popped a corner of the screen out of one of my windows and that's how my cat got outside. We went to all of our nearby neighbors asking them to keep an eye out for her, and the particular person who has my cat hates my husband. We thought it was strange he was being so nice and friendly towards us the first day, and now we know why.

Of course the cat won't answer the door. He doesn't have opposable thumbs. Sorry to hear that, OP. Can you get the police involved?

I would give it a few hours and then call the cops.

This same thing happened to my parents about 30 years ago. FYL, I hope you get your cat back. I'd be devastated.

I shouldn't panic too soon. I had the same a couple of weeks ago - he was stuck in the house for 5 days as the occupant had had a bad fall and was in hospital. Cats are way better survivalists than humans - my kitty was hungry and unusually affectionate, but not malnourished, dehydrated or traumatised. Best of luck - hope you're able to make contact with your neighbour and be reunited with your beloved quickly c

Unless your cat is microchipped or wearing it's tags or you have pictures with him I don't think there is anything you can do. ( I'm not even sure the pictures could help. You'd have to prove its your cat.

Technically, a stolen pet is stolen "property" in the legal world. Even though we think if them as family members, as do I for my fur babies. If your cat is microchipped, that can prove it, or the collar or pictures of said cat to prove your neighbor stole him. I had to do this when my neighbor stole my cat. They even took off his collar and tags to try the stray route. Needless to say, a month later I got my cat back and now he never leaves the house.

If your cat won't answer the door then he has probably stolen a new 'owner'.

Years ago, my cat went missing for a few days and I walked around the neighborhood calling for her. When the new neighbor down the street opened her front door to see what was up, my cat calmly walked out the door and down the steps. I, of course, called the cat over and scooped her up into my arms. My mom had a little chat with the neighbor and found that, being new and unfamiliar to the neighborhood and its residents, she'd simply thought the cat was a stray. Luckily for us, she was happy to return her.
