When I started my period at 11, I'd been told all about it, but I was also pathologically afraid of it for unrelated reasons. It's entirely possible the talk happened and the girl was still traumatized. For some kids, no amount of talking can quite prepare you for all that blood-and-hormones mess.
This is why you should talk about and teach your kids what they need to know BEFORE it happens. Well before.
I really hope your daughter doesn't have FML. That would be double fail for you as a parent, first you never told her about one of the most important mile stones in her life, secant you go and post it on App.
Exactly. I ended up asking my mom what a period was at age 6, and got the whole talk then (and various parts of it again as needed). Making it a big taboo topic that you need to reach a certain age to discuss is just going to lead to disasters of misinformation or fear. I think parents should be open about these things with their children. Of course some times it was embarrassing for me to have to hear these things from my mom, but I'm still glad I knew.
She kind of had the right idea!
Um this was a FML that I wish I could take back from reading it
YDI, you should have told her about her period. it's nothing to be embarresed about, it's natural.
They didn't necessarily have to make it a "big taboo" topic for this kid to not know what a period is. It may have just not occurred to them that it might be necessary to tell her about it at the age she is. I think people are assuming a lot here and being way too judgemental.
My cousin started her period when we were nine and I've had to wear a bra since I was seven. Some people go through puberty early and your parents don't see it coming. Also for the record, I wasn't over weight. As an adult my boobs are an F cup but I usually squeeze into XXL sports bras because its a hell of a lot cheaper than Lane Bryant.

um, maybe you shouldve taught her about her about her body?
**** your daughters life. I'm a guy and I can't imagine bleeding out in my genital area and not knowing what the ***** going on just imagine all the things that could be going through her head. I'd do more than cry. You should have taught her about periods atleast. I can't blame you though because she might still be young and you couldn't have known that it would come so soon
