However harsh it sounds, it could be an FML because he's happy with how his life is, or he has a family and just doesn't want to deal with it. Or, like people have said, it could have been because he missed out a lot. Either way, being told you have a child you never knew about is a big thing. And how do you know he just sleept around? The woman could have been a girlfriend, and they could have broken up before even she knew she was pregnant. Theres no way to know what happend before.
