OP here, yes the girl was fine and laughing when I ran up to her to see if she was okay. My dogs just a very large, very excitable english mastiff puppy and the girl loves dogs so it worked out fine after I bought her another ice-cream. And my puppy wasn't on a leash because we were at a dog park playing with other dogs and she was very fired up. The little girls parent saw what happened and were very understanding :)

Sounds ruff...
Your dog would do anything for Ice cream lol
Whatcha doin? Eatin' chocolate. Where'dya get it? Doggie dropped it.
Get a leash for it
I'm sorry op but you kind of deserve this one. The dog should be trained, and restrained at all times when in public you just never know. And everyone saying maybe he was on a leash and if managed to get away from OP its still his fault. I have a 85 lb pit bull. And he walks on his leash in public just fine. Get a dog you are able to control.
That's a very arrogant and stuck up thing to say for someone who doesn't know all of the details XD My dogs only a puppy, meaning not fully grown, also meaning not fully trained yet. We were also at a dog park (were you just so happen to not require leashes) playing with other dogs
If your don't isn't fully trained then you shouldn't be taking it into public. It's simple. Yes its a dog park where dogs are meant to play but playtime can change very quickly. I own a pit bull. He is a loving dog but he still has the blood of a killer. I trained him for 2 years before i took him into public. I am not gonna have him eat someone's chihuahua because he "was just a puppy who wasn't fully trained."
You probably shouldn't own one if you honestly believe he had "the blood of a killer" he's a puppy not a viscous blood thirsty creature. Those poor puppies have enough of a bad rep, I would think an owner would know better! Plus taking puppies into public to work on training in a real life situation is encouraged and almost unavoidable. They need exercise, generally to get the right amount most people take them into public.
To clarify, I also own a 75lb pitbull, she's my baby girl and I adore her. She's fully trained and listens beautiful but yes during the training there were a few hiccups, she does not have the "blood of a killer" in her, she's just a puppy with a lot of love. Even with our large backyard, without taking her in public there is no way I would be able to fully exercise her. We take her rollerblading, and running for that. Before that we worked on recall, and basic commands at home, but has to work more on it in the real world too.
Your ignorant if you truly believe that. Pit bulls are breed to fight. They always have been and always will be. They have the genetics of a killing machine. That is what they are meant to do. Now do i believe that this means my dog will one day snap and kill me. Not hardly that's just stupid. But this dog is 85 lb of solid muscle with a jaw that can snap through wood. Not to mention the ability to lockjaw which can only be undone when the dog is knocked unconscious. Now take all that into account when some 3 lb dog is attacking it just because the dog is an asshole. What do you think will happen to that dog if yours is not fully trained? One bite and its all over. This is the responsibility that pit bull owners have to be ready for. We have to put extra time and effort in. This is the point i am trying to make.
you should not own a pitbull, seriously do your homework. There's a reason they were once referred to as many dogs, yes their strength and size lends itself to dog fighting which is why they've been used as such and have such a bad rep. They idea that they are "bred" for that soul purpose is a myth, and a terrible one at that. They are faithful, loyal, amazing dogs, great with kids and make awesome family dogs, seriously really look into their history, as well as temperament and separate myth from fact. P.S. anything a brain is capable of snapping, there's no set lines for mental illness. The OWNER not the dog is the problem, your stupid logic is what gets breed bans put in effect!
That's not really true. Some of the most dedicated and loving dogs I've seen are pit bulls. The biggest problem is that they can be aggressive towards other dogs. They don't tolerate other dogs very well at all. Pit bulls are not the only dogs with that problem. Rottweilers can be the same way yet seldom do you hear people saying they should be banned.
You are completely missing the point once again. What part of having a dog capable of tearing you limb from limb are you missing? Did i say every pit bull does this? Not even close. My pit bull is the most loving caring sweetheart. You know why? BECAUSE THAT'S HOW I RAISED HIM! This still does not change the fact that he is able to kill you any chance he wanted to. This is why you have to train them not to do so as i was stating in my first comment. Your going off in some twilight zone about myths and blah blah. The simple fact which i stated in the beginning is train your ******* dog. End of story.
We have a lab/beagle mix(age 9) a lab/chow mix (age 5. chows are labeled as an aggressive breed) and a pit/rott mix (age 4. both labeled as agressive breeds) we adopted the chow and pit when they were two. When we were adopting our pit they of course couldn't tell us about the first owners but an officer came in and saw we were taking him and we over heard him asking about us and if there was any chance he would end up back with the previous owners. We think he went through terrible times because since day one if anyone is even a little agressive he hides and cowards until I cuddle him (Yes only I can comfort him, I hate going to work because all he does is lay on one of the couches away from everyone until I come back. He doesn't even get up to eat breakfast or dinner if I'm not there. He loves our three cats and so does the chow. The only time there has been bloodshed is the first couple of times he tried to play with the cats-55 lb pit up against 7lb cats- our pit ran up and laid his head down on the floor both times with his butt up in the air and full body wags. Our smallest cat ran for cover the first time but the other two ran up and started scratching him so bad there was a bit of blood the poor thing just laid down whining (my fiancé thought the pitt bit one of the cats when he went running down stairs with a bloody face after hearing me scream. I was screaming at the cats for hurting him for no reason) this happened both times now they are all good friends and play together. The only issue we really truly have with him is he can't be without me. If he goes outside and I go into the bedroom or even bathroom and he comes back in and can't find me he will search the whole house and start ramming the doors with his head so now either I have to leave the doors open at all times in the house or he has to be in the room with me. I wouldn't leave ANY animal alone with a baby ever but I trust or pitt and chow so much that I would feel just fine doing that. I would have no problem leaving them alone with a baby. Because of this we will always have a pittbull in our family. You should never own a dog you consider a threat. Do your pitt a favor and give them to a good home where they wont go online and talk trash about the breed.
Oh yes let me just go give my dog away right now because someone on the internet told me to. I have owned dogs my whole life. Just about every breed you can think of. I have sheltered fighting pit bulls. And trained them to become normal everyday dogs once again and they now have wonderful homes with people who love them. You know why? Because that's how I trained them. They were vicious creatures when they came to me. I have been attacked by them plenty of times. But you know what I didn't give up. I showed them that I am the boss but at the same time with love and taught them a different way of life. This doesn't change the fact of that's who they were because that's the life they were shown. A dog is how it is raised to be. And when that dog is 75 lbs of solid muscle with a jaw like a can opener this can be bad. You shove your opinion up your ass. My dogs love me with everything they have and I love them as well. But i treat them with respect for what they are and they do as well. Dog owners like you are what give us a bad name. You people who think dogs are something to cuddle with disgust me. I teach my dogs to hunt, respond to normal conversation. He is a part of me. A man and his dog become 1. He understands me without saying a word. And would die for me. As I would for him.
So I don't love my dogs because I cuddle with them and don't go around saying one day they will kill each other because I never told them I'm the boss and taught them to obey and fear me? Well then I'm happy to say I don't love them then. I understand that they could rip me and each other to shreds but if you give love you receive love plus any animal can do that- Do you train a parrot to not peck out your eyes? If you don't one day they just might do that and it's all your fault for not making them obey you. They would die for me and I would die for them. I didn't have to "train" any of them to obey me. If I say no biting they listen. If I say no jumping they listen. I found a cat who was two months old (so the vet told me) on the side of the road, first night I had him my grandmother told me to take him back because he wasn't train and would pee everywhere. I placed him in the box said this is where you potty and he never once went anywhere else. That night I said it was bed time and he ran and jumped on the bed and curled under the covers laid his head on the pillow and held my hand in his paws and fell asleep. my grandma swears up and down I trained him to do that but I didn't. Never once trained him to not scratch the furniture and he never did. He used his scratching post. My cousins cat grandma did try to train. She is behaved now that she is almost 10 but for years the cat scratched everything, got on the table, jumped on you. It isn't about training it's all on how you treat them. Not replying to you again. I know what I say wont matter, you are stuck in your own little sad world. and yes please I beg of you give them to someone more grateful. Grateful for a companion, grateful for another life that is grateful for them. Dogs don't attack just because they feel like it they do it out of a deeper reason. Fear, hurt, starvation.....it all comes down to fight of flight with them. In the wild animals kill to be leader but not in domesticated animals really, it could happen on occasion but you could also be in a car accident. Should we ban cars? Humans are the ones that will kill just for fun. They don't deserve to live a life with some chauvinistic a**hat. Just because you have thumbs and they have paws doesn't make you superior. I hope you don't ever have human kids. They should listen when you teach them but no one should have mindless drones "just following orders". You're the adult not the master. The leader not the dictator.
Hate to tell you but i actually have 2 "human" kids. And they love me as well. ;) Good day!
And if you pull your head out of your ass and listen. I said i treat him with respect. Not fear. He listens to me because i treat him like an equal. He does something good he is rewarded. He does something bad he is punished just as if he is a human. My dogs are just the same as my children. They get no special treatment. I expect nothing less of them and they give me nothing less. I have no idea where you come up with "mindless drones." Dogs are capable of intelligence most humans underestimate. My dog knows to wait for his food. To tell me when he needs to go outside. When he is hungry or thirsty. He knows how to open doors. And when i get home at the end of the day I have never seen someone so happy to see me. So go **** yourself please. You don't know my dogs. And you sure as hell don't know me. Go spread the excrement you refer to as words elsewhere. They aren't welcome here.
And i hate to inform you but if you tell them "no jumping" "no biting" that is training. You really need to look that definition up. As the saying goes there is more than one way to skin a cat. (Not the best reference but fitting to the situation). I train my dogs with positive reinforcement and repetition. Of course they are reprimanded when they made a mistake but that is just normal. I swear in your mind you think i am dangling him above a pit of fire poking him with a cattle prod. Get real...
control your animal!
Time to apply..... the (ice cream) cone of shame!!!!
Am terrified of dogs in the street because so often their owners don't seem to control them at all, so YDI.
