Today, I found out my dad has a 1-in-a-million disease that makes your liver process pain medication at twice the rate of a normal person. If that wasn't bad enough, he also tells me he hopes I don't have it too, because it can be passed down. He said this because I'm 29 weeks pregnant. FML
I agree, your life sucks 36 187

Because the pain meds wear off twice as fast..... So in her case, when she goes in to have her baby, the pain meds she is given will wear off faster, and she will be at her maximum safe dose before the baby is born. Then she will have to endure the rest of her labor (the worst half) sans pain meds..

Suck it up. Lots of people give birth without painkillers.

You should probably stfu. No pain no gain? I'd love to see you push a bowling ball out of a whole the size of a quarter.

A quarter? A woman's cervix, when fully dilated, is ten centimeters... I've never seen a quarter that big. :/

Yet there are still many who say it feels like trying to shove a watermelon through a straw.

it's "one in a million" you probably don't have it, OP.

I wonder what this is. I know of a mutation that prevents a person changing codeine to it's active metabolites, but it's common.

My natural homebirth was the best thing I've ever done. I can't wait to do it again. (And it was 27 hours long.)

that's awesome!! go natural homebirth (for low risk bubbas) :)

most deceases have to be from both sides ( specially the mom, such as baldness) to be hereditary, so you should do some research and find out if it is recessive or dominant, then worry, not before time. good luck
