Today, I found out my mom took around $2,500 from my savings account to pay off my sister's college tuition. She recently flunked out of her studies and won't be returning to college anyway. FML

Moral of the story: your mom shouldn't have access to your savings account.

I am so thankful that I do not have parents who have ever taken money from my savings/checking account. if they ever needed money they asked and paid it back. I don't understand why parents do that to their own child. She should have made your sister pay for it.

How did your mom get access to your money. And what a nasty mother to take from one daughter and give to the other in a thieving way.

You can make a linked account so that a parent can give (or take) money from that account without having to go through as much of a Hassel. Also allows parents to watch what their child is spending.

this is why when I turned 18 I took all my money out of the account that was linked to my parents and went to the bank across the street and got an account in only my name

You should get a separate account so she doesn't have access.

I will never understand why American banks don't have accounts that both parent and child can put into, but only child can withdraw from. Seems it would prevent a lot of this shit.

#38 they do you stupid ****. It's the type of account, the said person chooses

@44 I wasn't given that option when I opened my first account at 17. If I had to guess, I would say it depends on the bank.

This is considered a felony. No matter what. Price of stolen is above 1500

I'd imagine the idea was paying off current debt so that the flunked courses doesn't build up more cost in the long run, but there's no excuse for stealing that money.
