Today, I found out my mom took around $2,500 from my savings account to pay off my sister's college tuition. She recently flunked out of her studies and won't be returning to college anyway. FML

Moral of the story: your mom shouldn't have access to your savings account.

This is why I don't have any joint bank accounts... Sorry dude, hope you can get the money back somehow.

How does your mom have access to your account? Are you twelve years old?

If mom's name is on the account then sorry OP, you have learned the hard way. Keep your own account of your earnings , always , even if your married. It is your responsibility to manage this privilege.

Demand she pay it back failing that take her to small claims court she stole your money to pay for your dead beat sister that's not okay.

I have to ask... Were these funds something you worked for and saved up, or is this money from your mom to begin with? It seems strange that you would let her be joint on your account if she doesn't have claim to the funds.

Okay, so if you are over the age of 18, go in secret and make your own account. Then remove the money from the savings and put it into your own.

Go to the bank with the mother, clean out the account in front of her then open another. If she can sign for money, they'll need her to sign to close it. On second thought, clean out the account a day in advance so she can't try to stop the transaction. But definitely open a new one while she's there. Just to drive home the point.

I had an ex whose mother would had access to her savings account. I never understood why. It was nothing but a constant source of hassle when her mom would "borrow" money.

This needs a follow up from the OP, maybe give a bit more information
