Kaibel tells us more.
Hey guys, OP here! Let me give you guys a little back story on the situation: I found out about this because I went on holiday with my best friend, which meant I would be leaving home for the first time WITHOUT my parents ever. On the sixth day, my face broke out horribly and I was feeling very nauseas. When my parents called to check up on me (since I was away in another state) I told them I had been feeling sick all day. One thing led to another, and they eventually confessed what they have been doing all these years (I'm 17 now). My reaction? Yeah, I was pretty pissed off. I hung up on my parents and literally threw my phone against the bed. The sad thing is, when I get really mad I cry, so there were a lot of tears involved as well. I've never had a real boyfriend or anything like that, so I have no idea why they did this. I'm going to see a doctor once I get back home, but until then, I'm going to ignore the calls and texts my parents send me. Thank you guys for all the support c':

My parents did the same thing to me growing up, except with Klonopin. They told me it was a multivitamin. They started when I was 14 and I found out when I was 16. I really should have figured it out sooner, considering I could barely walk straight (or would just pass out sometimes) right after taking it. I am 21 now and have not forgiven them. Where I am from it is completely legal, because I was a minor, and the medicine was prescribed to me (without my knowledge). I don't know where the laws might be different. I'm very sorry to hear that, OP. You absolutely deserve to know what goes into your body. Be strong. You'll get through this. <3
This FML horrifies me
Hey at least it wasn't hormones to change your gender. Could be worse than an acne breakout you could have had a damn mustache by now.
I'm pretty sure should would wake up if her parents cut her leg off. Also you can shave a mustache you can't grow a leg
You're a ******* idiot.
What are the legalities of doing this to a child or someone you have guardianship over (this covers adults)? Do you explicitly have to lay out what the pill is for and what it does? If a kid was on say antiretrovirals could the parents just call them vitamins and then explain when they're older? Or like with an adult with dementia: if you tell them it's a medicine for their dementia and they refuse to take it. Or can you lie to them and again, call it a vitamin? What OP's parents did is terrible, I'm not arguing that, but I genuinely want to know where the line is and if there's a certain point where it would be considered legal.
Honestly I was wondering this myself. I tried to look it up and couldn't find an actual answer. I hope for OP's sake this is punishable. I wouldn't ever be able to trust them again and it could have really hurt or killed her..
There has to be some sort of legal ruling on this. There have been cases where parents have had their children sterilized for various reasons. And like in the cases of children of Christian Scientists, the religion that doesn't allow medication or medical intervention. There have been cases where the parents have been charged with child abuse and I think in one instance, some form of murder.
omg if you had been taking them on your own and double dosing that way. idiot parents.
This would've been so much funnier if OP were male.
This happened to a girlfriend of mine. When we got physical she went and got her own birth control and basically it turned her into a please excuse me if this sounds bad a PMS rage monster. I remember the turning point was when she got mad and threw a book at me for talking to one of my female teachers. Turned out her parents were too embarrassed to talk about sex and decided what is the harm? The harm is to everybody sometimes.
So are you saying that your girlfriend went and got birth control on her own, then found out that her parents already had her a form of birth control without her knowledge? That's pretty messed up. Your girlfriend is lucky, being double dosed like that can cause some serious issues.
She's lucky that it wasn't worse. That could have caused her to be hospitalized depending on the conditions.
How did they get the pills? You have to have a prescription for it and go to a doctor to see which one is best for you... Is it the mothers? Why isn't she taking it? I'm gonna call BS on this one
It's time to learn how to cook for yourself, methinks.
I would have disowned and never spoke to my parents again if they did that to me wtf. Also I had a friend in uni who died from a blood clot caused by the pill......it's a very really possibility that your parents could have gotten you killed especially if your doctor didn't know
The pill alone doesn't cause blood clots. It makes them more likely for people who already have the conditions that make them susceptible of having one. The doctor who prescribed the pill very probably inquired into the family history to check if there were any clotting issues. And still, a blood clot would need to be released in the circulation for it to be truly dangerous. The chances of that happening are more than remote.
Anyone, including your doctor, will tell you the pill can cause blood clots.
#201 you don't have to have any preexisting conditions to get blood clots from birth control. My doctor warned me about it, even though I have no family history of blood clots.

Are they completely insane? Birth control can be dangerous, with many side-effects, it's the kind of thing you absolutely have to check with a doctor (for the dosage, number of days a month you take it, aftercare, etc). They're out of their minds. Plus, what if you already were taking it in secret? It'd be double dose!
Insane parents! With all side effects that is very dangerous to play with the hormone levels of a 13 year old! Back in the 80ies one of my classmates unfortunately had unsubscribed hormonal medicine given to her at around age of 15 and her brain couldn't handle it, she ended her life (already, while most of the classmates enjoy their lives fully) in mental clinic (sorry if the place is politically correctly called different, English is not my native language, but I hope you get the idea).
