Today, I found out that I was not adopted and in fact my parents are my biological parents. How did I find out? Over dinner. How long have I been believing I was adopted? 22 years. Why did I start believing I was adopted? My siblings thought it would be a funny joke. My mom played along. FML

Today, I found out that I was adopted. I'm 46 years old with 11 real siblings and no one bothered to tell me until I found the documents in my dead adoptive father's house. FML

Today, I discovered that I'm adopted. How? After a great lunch, I asked my uncle how he'd made the salad dressing. He replied, "Haha! It's a secret family recipe, my dear!" I wouldn't have thought twice about it, were it not for my parents' shocked expressions, and the long, awkward silence. FML

Today, I found out the truth about my and my siblings adoptions and why I have no contact with any extended family. Turns out our parents are half-siblings, who decided to adopt rather than risk any genetic anomalies. Their families didn’t approve of the relationship so they moved us far away. FML

Today, my mom dropped me off at a friend's house. Upon leaving, my friend's mom said how much I looked like my mother. My mother then replied, "That's funny, she was adopted." This was the first I'd heard of this. FML

Did your family also treat you like you "were not part of the family? The best hope for you: study hard in school, get a degree in a profitable field like nursing or something medical, make good money and disown your worthless family.

you can look different from your siblings, so it is reasonable (especially since parents played along) the OP believed this joke. My neighbor has three kids. Two dark hair, tan skinned kids and one with platinum blonde hair and blue eyes, light skin. blonde boy has dad's Swedish traits. Other kids resemble mom.

I am the author of the OP and after reading through everyone's comments, I'd seriously like to clear some things up. Yes, it did actually happen. Not quite 22 years as I stated, but close to it. In no way am I crying or bit*hing about it. I would never ever sue them nor disown them! That has actually never even crossed my mind. Believe me, as bad as this sound, my family actually treated me GREAT. My family is more important to me than anything else in the world and definitely would not trade them for anything! As cruel as this was, I find humor in it. And to clear things up further, my mom doesn't speak english and I don't speak our native language well. She would always say to me, in our native language, "you belong to a chinese woman." But since I didn't know our native language too well, I didn't know how to talk to her about it. As much as I questioned it, I was just never sure until the other night.
