People who don't accept that are just choosing to ignore a fact of physiology. But let's say that pregnancy, rather than being the purpose of sex, is a side-effect, if you will, of the act of intercourse: Even as a side effect, whose likelihood of occurrence is greater than 10%, it's a gamble to do it when you are 100% sure you don't want to deal with that side effect. If you had a job and you knew that calling in sick, even once, carried a 2 in 10 chance of causing your pay to be cut in half for the next 18-20 years, would you call in? You would do everything you could to avoid that consequence, up to and including finding another way to make a living. It is unfortunate that this guy was dating either a very stupid or a very deceptive woman, but he's the one who made the choice to both date her and sleep with her.
