Unfortunately it's my experience that, when dealing with a determined stalker (Yes, parents can be stalkers too.), even distance won't always solve the problem. My own overly-paranoid and obsessively co-dependent mother once showed up at my apartment and broke in through the back door because she hadn't heard from me in *gasp* almost thirty-six hours. Two years before this I had moved over two hundred miles away thinking that I'd be safe from her well-intentioned, but extremely crippling, interference since she doesn't drive. Needless to say, my roommate at the time was even less pleased to see her than I was. Sadly, this is the type of person who has "kept my bedroom just the way I left it" and reminds me at the end of every phone call that "it is waiting for me when I'm ready to finally come home". I moved out fifteen years ago, own my own home half-way across the state, and have been happily married for six years. "Anonymous" poster, I feel your pain. My mother/stalker only backed off after my spouse threatened to press charges. If this is normal behavior for her then it might be time to look into getting some help.
