My parents are first cousins too, lol, I turned out fine. Just don't go off with your first cousin, there will probably be some trouble there :P

We're certainly not all bad. Most of us are completely sane. I'm not sure of your nationality but if you are American then that could be the trouble. Religion never seems like a choice over there because it is so entwined with your current culture/ politics etc, whereas in Europe it is very very much a choice thing. Christians tend to be good people, and there is a wide variety. They range from the crazy Biblebashers (who I don't think of as Christians since they overflow with so much hate) to the genuinely good people who believe in love and equality as a way of life. I don't expect to convert, nor do I want to, but I'd like people to understand that not all Christians are god-bothering lunatics

Actually, marrying your first cousin is common practice in any patrilineal or matrilineal society. Marrying within the family line keeps the inheritance closer to you. The U.S., Europe, and countries controlled by either make up a minute number of cultures that do not practice this. Also, the chances there is only a 1% increase in the chances of children of cousins that marry having a genetic defect. Chances are that the child would have had that defect even if they hadn't been cousins.
