This happens more often then you'd think. But still, FYL.

My parents are first cousins too, lol, I turned out fine. Just don't go off with your first cousin, there will probably be some trouble there :P

You can't prove God is real and you can't prove God isn't real. When you can give me proof of each of those at the same time, then we'll talk. However, this has NOTHING to do with the FML. The OP is just weirded out. I'm so sick of these simple FMLs turning into Holy Wars.

It's okay - Most babies born to first-cousins are healthy: http://www.news.com.au/perthnow/story/0,21598,23792218-2761,00.html Narelle Towie June 01, 2008 02:15pm WA scientists are challenging the myth that inbreeding always leads to unhealthy babies. The highly contentious, often-tabooed practice has in the past been linked to deformities such as heart disease, mental retardation, deafness and even blindness. Australian research published in 2001 showed that babies born to first-cousins are nearly three times more likely to have serious birth defects. But Professor Alan Bittles, an adjunct professor at the Centre for Comparative Genomics at Murdoch University, who has spent 30 years researching the topic says most children born to first-cousins are healthy. In WA, about 500 marriages are between first-cousins. “In Western culture there is a general belief that first cousin marriages lead to negative genetic outcomes, yet a large majority of children born to first cousins are healthy,” he said. Prof Bittles reviewed 48 studies from 11 countries and found that the risks of birth defects rose from about 2 per cent in the general population to 4 per cent in consanguineous or same blood couples. He found that only 1.2 per cent suffered higher infant mortality rates, a find similar to another review from 2002 that suggested first-cousin children are less than 3 per cent more likely to have genetic deformities.

INNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNBBBBBREEEEEEEEEEEDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!! RUN FOR YOUR LIVESSSSSSSSSSS

Anyone else wanna post a ******' novel or Wikipedia homepage while we're here?

MUST BEE FAKE. Most one liners are fake. This one-liner reeks of fakeness. Where's the story behind it? Something THIS drastic HAS to have a story.

My parents are also first cousins. It's nothing to be ashamed of. Anyone who has a problem with it is simply ignorant and afraid of something that's out of the social norm, but as others have mentioned biologically it's fine within one generation. All genetic testing for any possible disorders is done (as far as I know) during the pregnancy, just like during any other pregnancy. If there were any problems, you would have known about it from birth. I'm sure your parents already took care of it, but if you're not sure just ask them.

LOL, I find it hilarious how everybody argues on this thing. Either way, for the original post....wait, you hear that? A banjo! As for everybody who got sore about the whole "parents being first cousins is ok" thing. I don't hate...but I don't think the user would have posted the comment as fmylife unless it really WAS shocking to them to begin with. Proceed.

Wow a lot people on this website are retards. Anyway, it's no big deal at all that your parents are cousins. Even with direct siblings, a defected offspring is unlikely. As far as the social norm goes... Well **** the social norm.

That's disgusting. I'm sorry, looking at my siblings and thinking of one of my kids marrying and having sex with one of their kids...that's completely wrong. Not wrong in a sense that it shouldn't happen because I'm not personally comfortable with it, wrong in a sense that I just can't think about that without cringing. I don't care. But that's just freaking gross.
