Today, I got back to work from a 3 week vacation. My boss had asked me to get him something so when I returned I presented him with a shotglass with the British flag on it. I later found out that he is a recovering alcoholic. FML

There's probably no way you could've known that, so I think he'll appreciate the gesture :)

he doesnt have to use it for drinking, he could use it for like a decoration

HAHAHAHA, me too. That's hilarious.

I guess you helped him... remind his sweet past...

Shame, now the gift will go to waste :(

haha truthfully, send it on over to the one earlier FMLs from today...the guy all pissed off that the other business offered booze as a payment form....if he takes it, he could use that shot glass!!!

lol at #15.. This thing really isn't an FML as much as a slightly awkward situation. So he can't drink out of it or use it as a paperclip holder on his desk. He's not going to think you're a d-bag for buying it.

My sister used to get me shot glasses wherever she went, even well before either of us turned 21. Shot glasses are common souvenirs. You don't need to feel guilty about him being an alcoholic.

you dont have to use them for drinking my brother has some from disney world and they just sit as decorations

I agree with most of the comments that it's not a big deal. Speaking as a recovering alcoholic, I would certainly not be offended if somebody who didn't know got me a shot glass as a gift. I think it's a very thoughtful gesture, and if he mentioned it after you presented him with the present, then that's his own issues he needs to deal with. If you'd presented him with a bottle of Scotch whiskey, that'd be a different story!

haha #19 It's so much fun connecting FMLs! But seriously, shot glasses aren't just used for drinking. Besides it's not like you got him a bottle of whiskey or something. That would really be an FML. Hope your trip was fun at least!
