Today, I got called into work and I was really excited to earn some extra money. One block from getting there I get pulled over. Apparently my tags were expired, and there goes half a weeks pay. FML

I'm not sure whether I should say FYL or YDI. On the one hand, I know what it means to have to drive on expired plates. My sister had to for awhile because she couldn't afford to get them renewed. (Deadbeat husband, two kids to take care of. The kids' expenses came first, and by the time she was done getting the things she needed for her boys, she didn't have the money to get her plates renewed.) On the other, the way this is written makes me lean toward you deserve it. How did you not know they were expired? I'm torn. I guess I say FYL AND YDI because it sucks that you're going to have to pay all that money, but it is kind of silly that you didn't realize they were expired.

At least now you will have the extra money to pay for it. Those expired tags would have cost you sooner or later anyway. You have to look on the bright side. :)

Look on the bright side, at least you didn't find out your tags are expired when you totaled your car and the cops just added the tags fine to the other fines you got. :D

LOL, you must be half retarded to blow half a weeks pay on a simple ticket.

Where do you live? That is an interesting way for a state to do tags. I know that in WA they expire a year from the day that you get them. However, the state does send you a reminder to renew. I have been in a situation though where, despite the fact I informed the state multiple times that I moved, they still send my reminder to my old address. Luckily, I figured it out on my own that I needed new tags and took care of it though. OP: What is Oregon like? Were you informed about it? Did you forget? I am going to say that if you forgot FYL. However, I have had a friend get a ticket for expired tabs when she was unable to make it to the DMV due to the fact that she always worked during their hours. If that is the case of your situation FYL.

YDI for not keeping track of that

Oregon tags are valid for 2 to 4 years depending on how old ur vehicle is so I guess I could see how they would forget. But if money is tight, maybe op purposely "forgot". Either way that sucks, registration fees, plate fees, and now a ticket to pay. Next time just put money away each paycheck when you know your registration renewal is coming up, better to save up and pay on time then to wait and get penalized!

yeah actually i was in college and my parents never received or gave me the notice. I am pretty smart in most things but I literally know NOTHING about cars. Money is tight because I lost even loans for financial aid becuase my parents have no credit due to medical debt. So yeah, I'm not a loser, or forgetful. Just a F**ed up life.

YDI. The tags say when they are going to expire. It doesn't sneak up on you, its the same date for a year or two. If you're the one who drives the car, you should have given your parents notice to renew the tags, not the other way around. And if you know nothing about cars, you probably shouldn't be driving one.
