wow thanks for all the comments guys! yes, my luck in this case was awful. for those wondering, I did pay my insurance. the issue wasn't non payment. I just bought my car less than a month ago. Progressive, my company, never informed me of the photo inspection with new cars and since this is my first new car I had no idea. They chose their sole form of communication through postal service. Never received an email. so comp and collision were cancelled on my car insurance. Now the post office is 100% responsible for fixing my car. However, since its the government insurance they take their sweet time. I will be without my car for many months unless my insurance will cover and they can reimburse my insurance. You guessed it....that's not gonna happen. yes I will be suing. yes I will be without my brand new car, that now has $7000 worth of damage. fml.

The Post Office takes accidents caused by the carriers very seriously. This is not some conspiracy. If proper procedure was followed, which I'm sure it was, a supervisor and the post master would have come to the scene of the accident, taken your written statement and all of your information, taken pictures of any and all damage incurred, and would inform the insurance guys immediately. Accidents happen people. Those mail trucks aren't the best to drive and mail carriers are humans too. Everyone makes mistakes. As long as everything OP is stating is true, the damages are 100% covered by USPS.
It depends, where I'm from, if you are driving without insurance, regardless of whose fault it is, the person without insurance is considered at fault since they shouldn't have been driving in the first place. But yes, the post office would take it very serious and the mail carrier would get some sort of penalty. I work for CP and clipped a parked cars back bumper with one of the giant trucks rear end (they were parked over the parking exit curb and the truck was longer than I was used to) I got suspended and a mark on my record.
Yeah, tell that to my mailbox. My mail lady has run into it so many times I've given up trying to do anything about it.

Thanks for the heads up. I have them too, and did not know about the new car photo inspection. I would have thought they would have let you know that in an E-mail. You did pay for the insurance? I cannot understand how they would then cancel your policy. That is stupid.
What kind of car did you get?
That's bullshit I also have Progressive. Three policies personal Business and motorcycle insurance I have never done pictures and I have filed numerous claims. Of course it may very state to state and in his state they may require it
Look at the bright side, OP, at least it wasn't totalled, and you'll eventually be with it again.
Yeah ... Progressive is horrible!!! I had them for a little while and they were a nightmare.
They probably canceled it because they are a horrible nightmarish company. I can't even begin to say all they put me through.
Switch to geico. Progressive is run by a bunch of useless turds
That's very unprogressive of Progressive.
2015 Toyota Matrix
Progressive is shit indeed. After my ex and I split i called them and told them to cancle the automatic withdraw for her insurance. Everything was fime and dandy till 6 months later they decided to take one more paymenr out of my checking account causing me to overdraft. I'm still wating on a refund from them...hopefully month 30 is my lucky month.
Oh, very nice, OP! I have a 2007 Toyota Matrix, and it was also my first car. I adore it. On topic, holy crap, that's terrible...I have State Farm and if they can't get a hold of us via mail, they call our house phone. I seeing quite a few comments saying Progressive has a track record of this, I sincerely hope you can get it sorted and get your car fixed.
You Americans and your obsession with suing never ceases to amaze me
Also former Progressive customer. A man had ran a red light and I hit him. I had 2 passengers in my car. He told the cops I ran the light. 10 minutes later a woman showed up and claimed she had seen the whole thing. Progressive went with his "witness" and I had to pay. I'm with Esurance now.
Just because it's the federal government doesn't mean it's going to be months. They have a procedure to follow just like any other insurance company, you won't wait any longer than you would if the claim was with your company. And you can't just sue them. They are a branch of the federal government. They are protected by federal law from people who want to slap silly lawsuits against them for something they are going to compensate you for fully.
We have Progressive, bought a new car, and we never had to submit photos. I have never heard of that before. Good luck anyway.
I had progressive as well for my '79 truck. After a year my insurance price went up, they said it was cause they only offer great deals within the year just to get people to sign up then raise it. I then recently bought a 2015 Toyota Corolla. They told me I would have to pay $800 a month for both cars, I cancelled the next day.
Excuses are useless. Pay your bills. Like its a shock insurance is due every month.
Mail carriers don't pick and choose which pieces of mail we deliver. They deliver what they are given. There are lots of reasons the mail may have been delayed that may not be the fault of usps. What I hate is when people yell at the mail carrier for mail they have not received. (Yes I am a letter carrier, but for CP, not USPS)
Maybe they didn't deliver the letters on purpose and then since the guy knew where you lived he followed you and hit your car
Until about a year ago I was with an insurance company whose only line of communication was snail mail. There are a lot of relics out there who don't like change.
Sounds like you need to go paperless. FYL
I have been yelled at, mostly by people waiting for their government cheques, but I have been yelled at lots for not having a piece of mail that they are waiting for.

Sue them
They hit you... They are responsible for the damages, not you.
