Hi guys, OP here. Some background info- The guy who yelled at me is only here 80% of the week, and he's not the boss I report to. He just thinks he is, and how he behaved was unacceptable.(He's trying to make the office his own show, but it's not working.) The boss of my division wasn't happy about how he handled things, so he was definitely in the wrong. My co workers are defending me, and this wasn't my fault since it's not my responsibility. I'm a receptionist, not an office manager. If they don't want to sign in- he should be yelling at THEM and not me.

Why did the gender of anything have to do with this? Only thing I can think of is to make people more sympathetic.
I'm going to guess she does have that experience and you don't.
No he probably hasn't that's why he's asking
One of the factories I frequently drop off to has a "Driver Sign In" sheet that never gets read. One time I even saw the supervisor walk up, peel the full list off the clip board and, without even looking at, crumple it up and toss it in the recycling bin. Since that day I have been signing in as 'Kareem Abdul Jabar'. For four years, now. Never a word.
Wait a minute... Young attractive woman working as a secretary for a construction company in New York under a man who's trying to reshape things the way he wants them? Oh my god... Are you Karen Page from Daredevil???
If you cant handle getting yelled at fill out a hurt feelings report. Construction, the patch, pipelaying, are not for the weak. If they dont sign your little sheet get them written up. its not that hard. If its mandatory get whoever is actually in charge to make it clear. This has nothing to do with you being young or a woman. Your in the office. give me a break. Try being on site. If you dont have what it takes find a new job
You seem to be the one with hurt feelings here. XD
lol not so much.Im just a cut the bullshit kind of blunt person. I get it that it sucks to be in the hot seat, but its not an industry for anyone who cant handle a little heat. And like i said shes in the office. Try being on site. Youve either got it or you dont. Its pretty simple. Im a female operator and I started when i was 20. Again like i said it has nothing to do with age or gender. Id say its more along the lines of the army chick. They dont respect her. If your not going to stand up for yourself, dont think anyone else will either. Especially not in the world of dirt, dust and diesel
I'm in construction too and I'm sadly one of the "guys" that forget to sign in.
I understand how that can happen being the younger woman in a construction company myself. Honestly all you have to do is be very assertive, you can bitch and scream at the workers yourself if they're refusing to cooperate. the issue is that they don't respect you.
Repeat after me: "hey, sh*thead, I get the crap for it when you don't sign in, so stop being a d*ck!" Female army vet here, and the guys aren't going to magically respect you if you don't stand up for yourself. If you can make them laugh while you do it,, they'll never forget to sign in and will look forward to talking to you.
I love how cursing like a sailor is actually fantastic advice in this scenario.
I'm a female mechanic and it's tough in male dominated industries. Try being more assertive, tell them to quit being babies and man up and do their job properly. I love how angry the guys at my shop get when I tell them to man up. ******* male egos
Next time he gets loud and in your face let him see you are packing and let him know if you feel threatend you have all the rite to defend yourself. Then laugh in his face.

If it's your job, then find a way to compel them to sign the log. I work in construction, and if the guys don't clock in or whatever we need them to do in the morning, then they get no vehicle keys or work orders. And if they don't get their work done or they're short on hours because they screwed around, then it's their ass, not mine or anyone else in the office.
Well at least they are standing up for you against a man on a power trip! Hope it gets better OP!
