Today, I had a substitute teacher for my dance class. I noticed at one point, he took out a camera. The principal came in, everyone was going crazy, and the teacher was dragged out of the classroom. He was taking videos and pictures of us dancing. Turns out he was a registered sex offender. FML

Who cares if he's videotaping you dancing? Grow up, OP. How the hell is anyone supposed to rehabilitate and lead a law-abiding life if they're forever blacklisted and stigmatized and barred from having meaningful employment? The reason there are so many repeat offenders vs. one-time offenders is because idiotic and counter-productive sex offender registries, permanent criminal records, and etc. that some "concerned parents" bullied the government into creating. Enough of this -- his past is his past, once he's served his sentence and paid his debt to society he's a law-abiding citizen. Blacklisting him and dragging him kicking and screaming from every job he gets is NOT going to be rehabilitated. It's not only draconian, it's completely counter-productive. /rant.

Also, the sex offender registry is ridiculous. You can be put on the registry for something as mundane as public urination. Srsly. Have you ever peed in the bushes in the park while walking home late at night? Congratulations, in many states, you are now a sex offender.

There was a true news article a few weeks ago similar to this, except it wasn't a substitute who was taking the pictures - a local news station had sent in a registered sex offender to film students at a school
