What if he is a misanthrope by choice? Some of us hate the rest of mankind and prefer to stay on our own without being bugged by others or vice-versa. No one said it's mandatory to go make friends with random idiots at school. Maybe his mom is just a tool who defines herself by who's friends with her, and is trying to push that vision on her son, while he makes up stories because he's fed up of that. ;) lol

Then don't make friends at school. Believe me, you can meet someone out there who hates the human race as much as you do and you'll have a great time together. Haven't you ever seen Daria? ;)

And you don't need to be autistic to just not enjoy being around people most of the time.

There are lots of things that cause people to not want friend or enjoy being around people. There are even severe anxiety disorders that cause these types of issues, as well as actual mental and physical disorders. For example I am agoraphobic, it is a phobia that can cause anxiety attack and is defined as a fear of public or open places. I do pretty well myself, but some people have this disorder so horribly that they become house bound for life.

@jonaathan33, and arianh(i think). there are many different forms of autism, including social autism which i have, social autism is people like how jonathan described, dont like to talk to most people an horribly akward in public, but regardless what jonathan thinks it is not our fault, you know that felling where your fingers are close to a hot object like a stove and your nerve memory sends a msg to your brain just how horrible it would be to touch the stove? ppl like me are either a. born with, or b. develope that feeling at a young age about people/strangers, its not shyness, its a subconcious/nerve rattling fear of talking to people, luckily for me i found a friend in the 2nd grade who was also a social reject, and its not just easy to go find friends like that, my one friend in rl had to eventually drop out of school cause of his inability to meet the required personality needed to be in a school setting cuz he is more confrintational im more passive and turn into a rock in public, but the point is, as an adult you cant go out and meet people like me, because they are all at home, usually on a computer. i would have to break into peopless housesand randomly talk to ppl to find out if they are like me, which doesnt work for anybody, thats why we meet friends online, so we can hopefully one day meet them in rl
