Today, I had to make up a story about my "friends" at school so my mom doesn't keep telling I'm a loser. FML

#2: It's not that easy. You may think it is, but to individuals who have illnesses such as social anxiety, it is about impossible. I suffer from social anxiety and I only have three good friends of which I've known since I was five years old. I'm sixteen now. When someone has social anxiety, situations that involve talking/being around other people cause the individual to panic. It can be as simple as ordering something from a restaurant, answering the phone, or answering the door that can cause panic attack symptoms. Imagine what carrying on a full conversation with someone would be like. @OP: I'm sorry. I know how it feels.

I think we should be friends....we both have none.

I only said autistic is because I was watching a program about this guy who's is talented at surfing, but he's autistic, which prevents him from doing interviews or socializing without extreme difficulty doing so....I didn't mean to where people think you're retarded...

Please, don't talk about autism unless you actually know what it is. A program isn't going to teach you. Your attitude is what put a sour taste in everyone's mouth. Also, there is a difference between being autistic and retarded, which you should know is usually very offensive when used and especially when misused. Having a brother who's autistic really opened my eyes and it's nothing to joke about.

FYL, what kind of mom tells their kid s/he's a loser for not having friends? Seriously, why make it that much worse on their self esteem?

Your mum seems a bit a heartless and cruel, when I went to my mother about having friendship issues at school, she was the most kind, sweet, and helpful person. Don't talk to her until she learns to have some respect for her own daughter.

dude i know what youre going through. when i was in 6th and 7th grade i didnt have many friends. i was that kid that everyone refered to as a fag. but one day i decided i wouldnt let that get me down and i just started talking to people. when i left after 8th grade i was friends with practically the entire grade. (btw i have a mild form of autism) AND TO ALL YOU ASSHOLES WHO CALL THIS GUY A FAG HENRY DAVID THOREAU ONCE SAID "IF A MAN DOES NOT KEEP PACE WITH HIS COMPANIONS, PERHAPS IT IS BECAUSE HE HEARS A DIFFERENT DRUMMER. LET HIM STEP TO THE MUSIC WHICH HE HEARS, HOWEVER MEASURED OR FAR AWAY."

Tell your mom to stay out of your social life, you should have exactly as many friends as you want, even if it's none.

I've been exactly where you are. I have gone for so long being the girl who has to ask the teacher to get one of the other groups to take her for class projects. I literally just started making good friends in the past months/year. It is hard to make friends. Some people have it easy, I never did. Are you in a small city? I am, it made it literally impossible to make friends in my grade school. I feel for you, but some day you will meet someone who you have a little in common with and who is not a complete idiot, friends are hard to make, but few of us go through life with out them. Sometimes we are better off on our own anyway. Just open your eyes and you might see someone who would make a good friend, do not fall into the same trap I do, when ever I do something I think the whole world is judging me for, well they're not and they aren't for you either! But if you don't make any friends, that's cool too, you don't have to have friends, there is no law requiring it.
