I agree with the busting your ass to survive, I cant depend on my parents at all, I and my bro pay rent for our family 5 in a house, and go school and work full time. it sucks but as they say, time to man up buddy unless you're a chick then use grow up lol FYL though I feel you
Mixed feelings on this one. Eating is more important than textbooks. Most professors will provide a print out for the first couple weeks because they understand how tight money is. Otherwise there are always used books and friends to lend you books. Your mom was definitely rude though. However, you should have assessed the situation before acting. Food vs. Books......i'd go food and wait on the books.
I've gone to four colleges (one junior college, two for undergrad, and one for grad school), and I've never had a teacher provide handouts because (s)he realized how tight money was. They aren't exactly making bank either and have to pay for copies like the rest of us. It always came down to the fact that college is not obligatory and we were expected to have our books by the first day or not come at all.
I have also been to several colleges and in a few classes the teacher lent me their book to make copies. But I suppose it depends on the size of the school. My classes were all small.
If it's because you bought all your textbooks at the university bookstore then YDI. I saved over 300 dollars on books this semester by borrowing. Most of the people I know are also Bio majors so it's a little easy when it comes to borrowing books. Before buying you should always ask around! Also try purchasing them online. Everyone knows they're a lot cheaper.
Also, use abebooks.com, half.com, and amazon.com. Never buy books on campus! (Just adding this on in case the OP can't borrow.)
If you can't afford to eat, you need to re-evaluate your work and living situations. There are plenty of small "emergencies" in life that cost a lot more than text books, and if you don't have enough savings to take care of them, you either need to get a job, cut back on the credits you're taking, or up the hours you're already working.
Considering that the cost of textbooks can run anywhere from between $100 - $1,000 depending on the classes and what books they require I don't really see how all those emergencies that top the cost of textbooks could possibly be considered "small".
did u have it with "syrup":?
You know what you should do? You should get an extra job, or provide "dating services" like perdix suggested and then get even fatter JUST to show that bitch up. Yeah...
harsh

That's evil!! D:
Your mom and dad brought you into this world. I don't understand the mentality that they don't owe you anything. Yes, you are sentient and capable of taking care of yourself most of the time, but everyone needs help now and again. You would not exist if not for your parents, which is a good thing when things are good in life, but ******* horrible when things go wrong. I've been homeless and starving and without hope. It's not something I'd wish on my worse enemy.
