Today, I introduced my mother to my new girlfriend. My mom made a very nasty comment about her in Spanish, not realizing that my girlfriend teaches Spanish at the local school. FML

It is so rude when people do that. I'm glad your girlfriend understood and I hope she busted her too. Your mom needs to learn some manners

oohhhh sorry!! maybe next time tell your mom a little bit about her first?

What did tu madre say? Muy Malo, si?

I thought my mom was bad... I hope you defended your Gf and told your mother that behavior is not acceptable. Why do mother's always insist on insulting the people their children are with? Your mother had no right to do that. Unless your girlfriend is a horrible, backstabbing bitch who has cheated on you and slandered the family name... even then your mother should bring those concerns to you at a time when you two are alone together, not when she first meets a girl she probably knows nothing about.

Ella debería haber sido más respetuosa. Parece que mamá no le gusta a su nuevo amigo. Lol

I don't see a problem. Most Spanish teachers have only a very basic grasp of the language

That's ok. My mother in law made it clear in plain English right in front of me, to her son aka my boyfriend of two years that (in the least words) she doesn't like me anymore, and the chick he brought home the other week was more "now" quality

It's stupid how Spanish speakers in the US think they can just say whatever they want and no one will understand them. HOLA STUPIDO! Spanish is the second most commonly spoken language in the States, and a growing number of caucasians speak it fluently or near-fluently as a second language.
