The AP Biology book actually refers to birds as reptiles. It really depends on the way scientists classify everything and when their studies reveal new information, classification might change.

... the first creature that could be considered bird like was actually a reptile/dinosaur ( Archaeopteryx) and there is currently a scientific debate about birds being reclassified under/as reptile. (last I bothered to check anyway).
