Today, I laughed when I shouldn't have and am probably fired. What happened? My boss asked me if birds were reptiles. I thought he was kidding. FML

Well they aren't as different as you think. Birds are descended from dinosaurs.

This how I see it: Birds were linked to reptiles by scientists, but it does not mean they are reptiles. They are still birds, feathery and delicous when fried.

The smartest boss in the world ( note the sarcasm )

Birds are actually now classified as reptiles.

Maybe he was thinking of a pterodactyl...

You can't get fired for your boss being an idiot. If you do get fired, you could sue for wrongful termination.

Dinosaurs were more closely related to birds then reptiles. Just throwing that out there.

The thing is ********, they are. Who's the idiot now?

If birds were reptiles then why do they have, oh, I don't know, maybe feathers, they fly, they don't crawl... Their origin lies in reptiles, but the birds are birds.

You realize there are a slew of feathered dinosaurs, right? Say, perhaps ALL of Theropoda? (at least they suspect most of them may have had at least the beginning of feathers, and more of them are starting to show evidence of such plumage, perhaps even the Tyrannosaur itself)... Locomotion is a different story. Just because the birds have adapted to a life in the air doesn't mean they aren't a derived form of Reptilia. Just look at a few of the similarities present among the two groups: sclerotic rings, hollow bones, modified ankles, and so on...

Technically speaking birds ARE a type of reptile... Your boss wasn't so far off with that question!
