Yep, these things happen and are more common than you think. Sometimes, the owners themselves are behind it. They have a friend/or a guy they know, they give him the keys and tell him they're leaving the house for x months. So basically the guy puts the house up for rent, most likely for a much cheaper price than normal to attract people, and finds some gullible person/persons who rents the house and pay everything without signing any legal documents. If it looks too good to be true, it's because it usually is OP.
Happens all the time now-a-days :/ so sad

Today wasn't as extreme no one died on my shoulder, i didn't get pissed i'm still 18, single and never kissed a guy, unemployed yep the life ... FML
Plot twist: they were on vacation.
I don't think it is really much of a plot twist when that was what was kind of implied in the original FML
