Is OP actually adopted, though? Everyone seems to be assuming it's true. Either way, that's not really the point. Sometimes when you hurt someone, they lash out and try to hurt you back. Even if they're older than you. Parents (and step-parents) are people too, and I'm guessing "told my step dad what I thought of him" doesn't mean OP told him how awesome he is. Maybe raising someone who you have no particular obligation to only to find that they're an ungrateful douche is, y'know, hurtful.
