Today, I noticed my 5-gallon glass vase/aquarium was leaking at the base. When I went to move the vase so I could transfer everything to a new aquarium, the bottom completely detached, sending water, sand, sea shells and fish crap everywhere. FML

That sucks! Were your fish okay!?

Even a stable bottom would have issues with all that weight! Sand and water is heavy. I'm sure you dumped a lot before this attempt, but you should always try to get a fish tank as empty as possible before you move it, ever!

You never mention whether or not there were fish in there. Hmm.

Only a novice aquarist would not pick up a tank by the base.

I'm sure people have already said this but.. Remove the water maybe?! Ydi

Leaking at base or anywhere on an aqua tank? Step one, remove all living creatures. Step two, remove water. Step three, remove whatever decoration you want to keep. And THEN you can pick up the tank.
