okay look guys I'm a diabetic and I still can barely tell the difference between diet and regular. and number one you don't check your bloodsugar all the time. number two you can still eat fast food as a diabetic there is nothing wrong with it. sometimes people do mess up it's a part of life. humans arn't perfect. if you don't have diabetes you don't need to be saying that the OP is irresponsible. you don't understand how hard diabetes is. he could've gone into DKA or diabetic ketoacidosis without realizing it. and you can't just some magical way figure out the exact amount of insulin you need to take for a soda. diabetes is a very hard disease to live with. so cut him some slack for not being able to tell the difference between regular and diet soda. coke zero and coke taste exactly the same. so if you don't have diabetes don't think you know more than he does.
Thank you. I'm glad someone else understands. I've been a diabetic for eight years now and half the time even I can't tell. Also, most of the people saying 'YDI' are saying that the OP shouldn't be having fast food being diabetic. They should learn how difficult it is to live with this disease. I was so young when I was diagnosed (five) that I can't remember life without this disease and it's personally made my life a living hell. So you guys should seriously think before you just say 'YDI'.
ive been diabetic for going on 10 years (since i was 8) and there is definitely a definitive taste difference between regular and diet ... this situation is by no means your fault but could have very easily been avoided i myself have been in said situation many times before and very quickly have picked up on it ... and if i couldnt i have my girlfrind try it becuase she hates the after taste of diet coke ... so try that next time ...
Just because some of y'all can taste the difference doesn't mean EVERYONE can. "I can taste the difference" is no argument, EVERYONE'S taste-buds are different!! I, personally, can easily tell the difference between most diet drinks and their normal counterparts... I'm not going to assume your taste-buds are the same, though... I like sushi, asparagus, broccoli... personally. My husband won't touch broccoli, his mom won't touch sushi, my mom won't touch asparagus... and they all have favorites that make me cringe to put near my mouth..
Ok if its type 1 diabetes they can eat fast food retards but also YDI for not giving yourself insulin after you checked and saw it had risen
I'm a diabetic. Switching diet for regular or vice versa is a simple mistake, it's happened to me many times. All that ever occurs is a take a sip, say "hey this is regular" and ask for a new soda. I've even had my taste buds checked, and I'm considered a "non-taster". So if I can tell the difference, so can you. But if you can't tell the difference in taste, you'll feel your blood sugar soar WAAAAY before you finish the whole thing!! YDI for making no attempt to protect yourself from a common mistake, when it could HARM YOU.
it does happen. I am a Type2 diabetic and I just came home from getting Rally's. I had ordered an unsweeted ice tea, even confirmed it with the guy at the window a second time. I asked him for sweetener, he didn't have any, but he offer me sugar! So here I am with a with a VERY sweet tea!
that sucks but next time have a friend/family member try it and see if it tastes like regular. My mom is diabetic and whenever we get drinks from restaurants or fast food places, I test her drink because she has trouble sometimes telling if it's diet or not sometimes. I get another straw and taste it and since I hate the taste of diet sodas, I can tell the difference.
