Today, I ordered take out, and paid with a credit card. The cute cashier gave me the receipt to sign, and under 'tip' I gave a couple of dollars. I realized that I had given too much, crossed it out, and changed it. Unaware she was watching, She then responded, "Did you just lower the tip by $1?" FML

What does it matter if she saw you do it or not? She would have seen it crossed out in a little bit anyway. It's a weird thing that you would bother to cross it out and lower it by only a dollar, seeing as how a dollar is relatively insignificant in the grand scheme of things, but it's just weird as opposed to horrible. Plus, it was only take out, people don't normally tip on take out at all so if I were her, I'd feel grateful to have even gotten a couple dollars.

I think what he means is that he wants the waiter to make the night good by providing good service and that they should have to work for a big tip and not just expect it

Idk maybe she is poor as well?? I'm living paycheck to paycheck I can eat out sometimes but sadly I can't tip unless it's rare time where I have more money. Yeah it's a dollar but she can buy bread, get a bus ticket or something she needs! It's understandable and that waitress was rude I would have crossed all of it out. I tip only when u think they did a GOOD job. Your poor that sucks but so am I! Don't hate on her times are tuff

I hope you said something along the lines of "your cuteness distracted me and I wrote down the wrong amount".

It was kind of rude of her to even mention it. It speaks to her personality; being cute has no bearing.

Everyone who calls the OP cheap: My parents both get paid on tips. They aren't waiters, but are paid tip-based. They both have a tendency to tip a lot and have raised me to do the same. THAT BEING SAID. Take out. The waitress does not have to do very much for take out. If anything at all, in fact. If he had sat down and been served by her, it's a different story. But for take-out, most people don't tip at all, and even my family doesn't tip much to the waitress, because she is supposed to earn her tips from actually doing work. Granted, a dollar doesn't really matter, but in the end, she needs to shut up and accept that she didn't do much and isn't just supposed to get tips for standing there and looking pretty.
