Today, I pulled up to the stoplight near my house. It was dark with no traffic and the car behind me kept edging closer and closer to me. I finally got fed up with waiting and the car and ran it. In fact, it was a cop and he was trying to read my license plate because the back light was out. FML

Wow, always know what a cop car looks like! Not hard to see the lights on top even when they are OFF. I know exactly what cop headlights look like in my town. We have unmarked cars around here too, so I don't take the risk. THINK!!!

Good ******* God people. The car was probably an unmarked cop car with no lights on top and an internal CB radio antennae. Some of you posters are so god damn ******* stupid. And to #24, that's called fraud, I hope to God some day it bites you in the ass.

32, it's still possible to recognize an unmarked cop car. The key is to learn what they look like in your area. Or, you know, just follow traffic laws and then not have to worry about what the unmarked cars look like.

you are allowed to stop and then go at a read light. you treat it as a four way stop. it is legal.

Woo. Two tickets instead of just one. Way to go. as for 24..., Eh, actually 24 is right. You can call it 'fraud' all you want, but... truth is the other driver will still be liable simply because he wouldn't have hit you if he hadn't been tailgating. The only time you *aren't* liable... is when you're at a stop light and some idiot hits you from behind and pushes you into the next car. and in some states they'll STILL put you at fault for saying you were too close to the car ahead of you.

34, only at a flashing red light. The OP didn't say it was flashing.

37- Um, just because you don't agree with a law doesn't mean you get to bitch if you get in trouble for breaking it. Sure, red lights at night are annoying. But if you choose to run them, man up and accept the consequences of your actions.

33, where do you live? There are unmarked Intrepids, Impalas, Crown Vics, Chargers, Explorers, etc. Many of which you cannot tell unless if you see them regularly. Yes, if you cannot tell an unmarked Crown Vic, you're stupid. The others, not so much. I used to drive a dark-blue Intrepid, it sucked because people would always suspect I was an unmarked cop and slow down.

#24 that is the stupidest idea I've ever heard. What if the guy who rear ends you doesn't have insurance (or in my case, the guy does have insurance, just his insurance company refuses to call their client to get their word, so we have to take them to court to get them to pay)? Looks like you're going to be paying about $500 (assuming the cost to fix the damages are above such a price) to pay for the down payment since your insurance will treat it as uninsured motorist. Congratulations! You just spend $500 to piss someone off! Most elaborate prank ever.
