_musical_addict_ I disagree that Twilight is corrupting our youth. Twilight is a current trend - just like Miley, Zac, JoBro, Taylor Swift etc are right now. Things like this come and go with every generation. You want corruption - have your child watch an episode of almost any weekly television program promoting careless sex and reckless use of drugs and alcohol. How it affects individual lives is different in every case. That your friend got dumped over Twilight hints that it couldn't have been a very serious relationship, no? Similarities and differences are what make and break relationships. If it couldn't last over this small difference, it probably wouldn't have last over much more pertinent issues. Teens are irrational. The brain hasn't fully developed and many are going through incredible hormonal surges - why not direct those toward a **fictional** character? In my opinion, it's a lot healthier at that age than having "relationships" in your early teens. It's unreal how much focus is put on being in a relationship at age 13 when someone has barely hit puberty. In no way, shape, or form are these young people able to fully realize what they are getting in to. And people wonder why suicide rates are up in teens! Their brains aren't mature enough to realize that even though one particular person doesn't "love" you when you want them to that it's not the end of the world... Yes, I agree that basketball is on somewhat of a different level. It was used to prove the point that those who are just as obssessed with hating Twilight are guilty of the same level of emotion that Twi-hards are showing, just the opposite end of the spectrum. Hating it with such passion is just feeding in to the hype and making it grow. Why does it matter that much?

Outside of mental disorders - depression caused by failed relationships (whether it be their parents' divorce, loss of a romantic partner, loss of a friendship) among teens is thought to be the leading cause of teen suicide as of late. My point of directing emotions towards a fictional character is simply this - at that age, what one may think is love simply isn't. It's an obsession, crush, etc. I'd rather that my child have "celebrity/fictional" crushes until they reach an age of maturity at which they can better understand their feelings. When that maturity is reached, by all means I agree - they should engage in real, personal relationships. However, I find it extremely unhealthy when someone that young has such obsessive feelings for another real person. Simply because as I said before, when it doesn't work out their brains are not yet fully capable of dealing with such intense feelings of hurt and rejection at such a young age. People should have well enough experience with "No" coming from their parents as they are growing up. They shouldn't have to deal with "No" in a romantic sense until they are older and more capable of dealing with that type of rejection.

i did like the books okay, but then people started obsessing over it and the movies weren't good, so it just ruined the whole thing and i hate hate hate those insane obsessive fangirls.

How is your life affected in any sort of way?? Seriously, get of FML.

I agree with auds23 100%. I liked the books, but I'm not a fangirl. the movies sucked. Rob Pattinson is not hot. (I'm a 14 year old girl)

Sparkly vampires and Werewolves/shape shifters, I prefer the Werewolves/shape shifters

Twilight - for fat chicks that can't get any. So sad :(
