Today, I realized that the "holla" tattoo I stupidly got on my lower lip five years ago isn't fading as I expected it to, and will probably contribute to my unemployment for years to come. FML

haha. nope, I'm in college in an apartment. just being sarcastic.

Tattoos aren't supposed to fade. That's why they are considered "permanent." Just because it is a ridiculously stupid tattoo doesn't mean your body can voluntarily get rid of it.

I have two friends who had lip tats and it faded away

Lip tattoos, like a few others, are notorious for fading within a few months to a few years. I'm sure OP was hoping it would on its own.

When you get ur tattoo ur tattoo artist tells u to come bak every 5-10 yrs to re-do it as they fade over a course of a few years....especially.color tatts, lips, feet, knuckles, hands, fade faster.....but obviously some peoplle dont kno since they dont have any tatts. Sounds to me like op literally got this "holla" tatt on his/her lips u kno where u kiss some1 lol that sux.....it shud fade faster thou

Dammit. Now I gotta go uncross my eyes. Thanks, 89. =T

Make-up solves these stupid problems hun unless its on the inside, then it doesnt matter?

If it was on the inside it probably wouldn't be an FML.

If its on the inside, you wouldn't be able to see it unless you pull your lip down

The right kind of make up can cover tattoos. A good concealer and foundation can do it quite well. I have a black tattoo on my wrist that I can cover with concealer and foundation.

Or a new tattoo to cover the old one... You know... A natural color... If its your lip, then the color should match as much as possible, and should be your whole lip so it's not as noticeable... In advance, sorry for the pain you'll have ... It's the price to pay for stupidity... I want a tattoo... But it's going under clothing... And no NAMES!!! Lol

How are you just realizing that if you've had it for five years?

In this case YDI stands for You Dumb Idiot.

What made you believe a tattoo would fade?

Gee, maybe its because of the fact that almost ALL tattoos fade over time...

When I pay to get something permanently etched into my skin, I expect it to stay. My 5 year old tat is still as dark as the day I got it. If it weren't I'd be pissed.

How lucky you must be then, I've know people who've gotten theirs retouched after about 3-4 years and they've faded a little. They won't always be as dark as the day you first got them. I mean, come on, your skin will age and therefore so will your tats. I've seen it plenty of times.

It depends where you get it. My wrist tattoo fades, the one on my shoulder doesn't. also depends if it's color or not.

Yes it does depend, but in 10+ years the tattoo will not be as clear, dark, or brilliant as it used to. Skin ages and therefore, so do tattoos. Some people have good luck and good skin so the tattoo stays truer longer, but eventually it will probably need a touch up.

I agree they will fade, but they don't tend to disappear completely unless they are done poorly
