Today, I took the day off work to be with my wife, since she's always bemoaning my lack of romantic gestures. As thanks, she spent most of the day reading Fifty Shades of Grey, which is basically a blatant plagiarism of Twilight, starring a pair of two-dimensional BDSM freaks. FML

Still a better love story than twilight.

I don't get this hatred towards Twilight. If you don't like it that's cool, but why the venom? & I wonder how many of the haters have read the books rather than just seen the movies. I don't like the movies, but I found the books quite entertaining, though I wouldn't call them great literature.

I read the books, and they were somewhat OK, they had a good idea of having to chose between your best-friend an boyfriend who hate each other, but Meyer ruined the idea with a pathetic heroine, and sparkling vampire, then the movies made it worse by having a female lead with NO emotions...

i really liked the books, i do agree about the sparkling vampire i try to ignore those parts. and the movie did ruin allot but come on there are only a hand full of movies that do the books justice half of the times i regret watching a movie after i read the book!

Yeah, I didn't like Bella much either for her low self esteem and self consciousness, & I didn't care for Edward either because he has the same self esteem issues as Bella. I thought Jacob was cool though.

I didn't mind the sparkly vampires. She just put a new spin on an old monster. It's normal for the supernatural to evolve in culture and literature. Take dragons for example. They morphed from dumb brutish fire breathing terrors to noble steeds and sentient protectors.

i get that but its a major evolve from vampires burning from the sun til sparkling and not being harmed by it, it,s a big change. btw exuse the spellen i`m dutch and dyslectic

I disagree. The sparkling and stony flesh are the only changes she makes. They possess all the other traditional vampiric qualities. It explains why vampires are never seen in sunlight but makes the plot believable. It would be difficult to make the story work otherwise. How else could they meet?

Btw Twilight was a plagiarism of Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris (Turned into an Adult series called True Blood) 2001 vs Twiligt's 2005 release... I google this quote since I was too lazy to write up a plot, but I did read both and have knowledge of both books... Not the one OP talks about, Charlaine's and Stephanie's I found this as I googled Sookie Stackhouse Series vs Twilight release dates "Twilight (legally) Plagiarizes True Blood/ Sookie Stackhouse? Posted by Emily on July 3, 2009 at 9:21am in Archive View Discussions Many, many, MANY nerdfighters have read and or enjoyed the series of Twlight by Stephanie Meyer. Even I confess to have profusely liking them as when i read them. I'm sure many nerdfighters have also/and/or enjoyed/seen the series True Blood. It's very good, I agree. I found out there was a book series behind the TV show so I immediately began reading them. As I delved deeper into the Sookie Stackhouse Series (that's what the books are called) I made a disgusting connection between the two series. The plot of True Blood is a telepath (that is, mind reading) girl in northern Louisiana meets a vampire and falls in love with him because she cannot hear his thoughts. The author, Charlaine Harris, also includes Werewolves, covens of Vampires, and Shape Shifters (later in the series). The things she mentions about the Weres is that they have a high temperture, feel warm, and start were symptoms at puberty. She said that the Vampires who lived in Covens were more hostile whereas the ones who lived alone were more humane. She mentioned that certain groups of Shape Shifters had different eyes (goldenish) differen from the other shifters. Humans turn Vampire from a sequencee of being bitten and having their blood removed, replaced with some of the Vampire's, and changed over around a 2-3 day period. Sounding familiar? The plot of Twilight is that a Vampire who is a telepath (that is, a mind reader) meets a girl in Washington whom he cannot read her thoughts, and therefore falls in love with her. The author, Stephanie Meyer, also includes Werewolves and covens (later on in the series). She says how Weres have very high tempertures and feel extremely warm, and all of her werewolves turned to such at some point of teenagehood. She said the vampires who lived in Covens were more humane whereas the ones who roamed in smaller groups or alone were more hostile. She told how the group of Vampires who drank animal blood had different eyes from all the other vampires; their eyes were golden. Humans turned Vampire from being bitten by Vampires, and changed over a 3 day period. SOUNDING FAMILIAR? I'm sorry but it disgusts me how much she took from another book but changed it to be teeny bopper so she could target a more excitable audience. i know she says it started from a dream, which it probaby did, but no one can pretend that this is coincedince that she didn't at least get ideas from this book series. It's just really sad that someone spent 3 months on a book and became famous for it when it wasn't even her original idea, whereas someone else spent years and years on books with similar ideas but more adult content, and was given very little appreciation in contrast, and only got more recent attention because her copier made the industry realized the audience wanted more Vampire stuff. Really, people? I ask the favor of anyone who reads this to read both series and just compare and be aware of all the under-the-table plagiarism that goes on today. Sookie Stackhouse Series, by Charlaine Harris. True Blood. twilight, by Stephanie Meyer. >>>P.S. I realize this isn't actual, federal-offense plagiarism, (that's why she's not being fined), I just wanted to know other people's opinions and to mention those facts to raise attention. I do not think Steph Meyer intentionally stole Most of what was 'coincedantly' linked through the series', --for a lot of ideas remain in our minds long after we forgot where we got them from-- but it doesn't change the fact that she did."

Except for the fact the Edward isn't into whips and chains and he doesn't even want to have sex with Bella.

jayfreeman80 0

Obviously she doesn't want you anymore as you have been neglecting her too long - she is probably having sex with your father!!!!

That's the only logical conclusion

...My mom read that...she loved it...

there are so many good fanfiction out there i would love to see in a book but why this one :S

Hey we r not freaks! People into the BDSM scene are really cool

Not for nothing... I read all 3 of the Fifty shades", and I couldn't wait till my boyfriend tried some of the things mentioned in that book. Maybe she hasn't gotten to those parts yet. But it did suck that she read all day when u took off just to spend time with her. You should of read with her. I'm sure 20 minutes into the book, would have changed both of your minds.

TheDevilsLily 5

Let her read it cause you are sure to get laid!!! It is **** on paper and nothing like that twilight bullshit. Guys have video **** girls have written ****. Reading 50 shades leaves a woman wet, panting, and needing sex!

Just because YOU aren't into BDSM or alternative sexual lifestyles doesn't mean that those who are should be considered freaks. I'm involved in the BDSM scene, and I'm as normal as the next person. You deserve it for your ignorance.

Oh, and I'd like to add, this comment certainly wasn't in defense of this book. I'd never even heard of it before reading this, and I loathe Twilight.

Meant to thumbs up this one. I feel the same way.
