Skip the shaving cream and sharp razors and get a hygienic blade electric razor! No cuts and it makes you baby smooth. No need for shaving cream, water soaks, deodorant, anything! It works wonders
Simple solution, don't wear any pants.
Wax
First time is always the worst OP, eventually you will get the hang of it and lots of good suggestions here. One thing I find helps more than anything, get a non electric razor and shave in a HOT shower then a really good quality aftershave balm, not liquid get a balm it's like a runny lotion and makes worlds of difference.
Practice makes perfect
Baby powder should help, or Butt Cream. Not even joking here, diaper rash ointment does wonders for razor burn. And as others have said, shaving cream and a fresh razor should help next time!
Use conditioner to shave with and a sharp razor. Get baby oil and use it on the area for two days after shaving. Make sure you have alcohol or neosporin for any nicks or cuts from shaving unfamiliar curvy areas. Good luck, OP!
Well, time to put on Amanda Palmer's "Map of Tasmania" for a few days. On a more serious note, trim, trim, trim, as much as you can before you ever take razor to that area.

Try shaving cream next time.
If your razor was dull that could have caused it- otherwise you should invest in higher quality razors and shaving cream. Your comfort is worth a few more dollars.
