Today, I was a bit upset to learn that my 13 year-old daughter had a boyfriend. When she noticed, she assured me that I shouldn't worry, because "it's just for sex anyway". FML

At that age, she barely needs to know what sex is…

and they wonder why parents lock their kids away

Unfortunately, you really need to get her on some kind ofcontraceptive.

Wow. I'm 20 and even I haven't haven't sex yet. Why are kids starting to do these things so young?

They always have. It was normal for a long time, before it got raised that you should be 16/18, the fact is though, a lot of women now of the older generation, and their grandparents generation, got pregnant young, it was just hidden away. Forced adoptions for instance. I'm not saying 13 year old should be having sex, but you can't just pretend hormones aren't there.

That's BS, you can't blame hormones because they don't define what you do. It's the choice you make as a person, sure the desire maybe there but it's whether they choose to act upon it or not.

Maybe she doesn't know what the word means and used it out of context?

if she doesn't know what sex is, I officially give up on this world.

to add to my last comment (i meant to add it, but ran out of time while editing): when I was 13, I knew about sex. hell, my first boyfriend and I talked about sex, not that we had any intention of having sex until we were far, far older. I still maintain that I will not have sex until either I'm 18 (and definitely using condoms) or 16/17 (because that's when its technically legal in Canada) while taking BC. I just think that's its healthy to talk about it, and be well informed, by the time you're a teenager.

Oh good, because at 13 she is way to young to be getting serious.

These days I wouldn't put it past a 13 year old to troll her own dad ;)

That's extremely young to be having sex but I'm not too surprised. Unfortunately you cannot watch your children all the time and you cannot absolutely control the influences around them 24/7. There was a time when children wouldn't get to hear about sex besides maybe a few rumors. These days kids have access to TV, magazines, the INTERNET etc. Your best hope in raising a child is protecting them with information that allows them to make informed decisions.

Press charges. You can still do it

I, uh. I don't think that's how it works.

Unless the guy is over 16 or whatever the legal age is where you live, I don't think you can do that. Not sure.

Have her watch more horror flicks. Sex Ed taught me a lot; but through scary movies I learned that sex, drinking, drugs, and smoking always lead to a gory and painful end. As an adult, I still refuse to have sex while camping due to the things I've seen.... or in any desolate place, really.
