Today, I was at Target trying on swimsuits. I tried on a medium bottom and was so excited because it fit perfectly even though I've gained a few pounds. My self-esteem was at an all-time high until my mom told me I could never fit into a medium. I rechecked the tag. It was an extra large. FML

you should sit on your mom, that should teach her a lesson.

The size on the tag doesn't matter as long as the clothes fit well and you feel comfortable with the way you look.

#70 Same here, I have no mercy toward fat people. Thus you deserved this one.

What size an "XL" depends on the brand. It doesn't mean you are fat. I can fit a range of sizes from small to extra large, it all depends on what brand it is and how small they run their clothes.

Just wow. That's all i have to say as to how entertaining this string of comments was for me to read. Funny thing is, we don't know where these few extra pounds grew on you, so if it is a two piece and you gained weight on your booty and bust, then you have nothing to complain about. Infact, you are blessed. If you really do have self-esteem issues and are a bit wieghty, that doesn't really suck. But I will say this, FYL for having to read through most of the comments on this page. Because this is a perfect example as to why I believe the human race is in a steady decline into a bunch of simple minded retards.

How does an extra large look REMOTELY like a medium?

ever heard of jared...and subways..? TAG WIN!

fat people it is your fault! ( Except for those with serious medical conditions) I am tiring of hearing excuses from everyone. Being fat is not like heart disease, fattness is a life style choice... another illusion: fat people in swim suit DO NOT look good together. Stop telling your self lies... Everyone else knows!

i know how you feel :( but places like target are MEANT to make people who arent stick-thin feel bad about their weight, because the world expects girls to be perfect, which apparently means skinny in this world. every time i go shopping for clothes i end up feeling horrible because all the clothes that fit everyone else my height and age would never fit me...and i am NOT very fat. sure, a little overweight, and i've been changing that. but just because you wear an XL bikini doesn't mean you're fat...most clothing stores run sizes small, because, like i said, girls are expected to be skinny, but some of us plainly *can't* be. i'm really sorry it made you feel bad though...I haven't touched a swimsuit in ages because of my extremely low self-confidence (just putting it mildly...). maybe if you feel bad about it, try eating different. but do NOT do what #10 said! don't bother watching the fat in foods, and it's NOT healthy to eat less! if you really want to do something, look up the atkins low carb diet, it works amazing. it's the best diet you'll be able to find. it might make you miserable at first, not being able to eat some foods, but you will lose weight from EVERY PART OF YOUR BODY!!! i know, my WHOLE family went on it a few years ago, and we all lost a lot of weight, and i started it again a couple weeks ago. basically though, just do something. if you think you're fat, or you're not happy with your body, YOU CAN CHANGE IT!!! you'll feel great, i promise(:

Clothing sizes differ between stores of course! I'm 5'2" and 105lbs, and my Target swimsuit is a medium. I usually wear a small or an extra small at most stores, but the bottom that I liked was only available in a medium that day. I ended up trying it on and it fit well! So, it seems that Target sizes can run pretty small, don't let that get you down.
